Lifetime Burbank resident, Jeffrey “Jeff” Alan Jones passed away from a heart failure Sunday, February 23, 2020, at his home in Burbank, California. He was 64-years-old. Jeff was born September 3, 1955 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank, California to Vernell Jones and Mary Bullock Jones.
He attended Thomas Edison Elementary School, Luther Burbank Junior High and John Burroughs High School where he played on the basketball team and enjoyed surfing prior to the school day. Jeff often described his childhood as ‘nomadic’ since his family traveled cross country and camped and explored historic sites during summer vacations. Jeff’s passion for the great outdoors from hiking, biking, caving, scuba diving, kayaking, river rafting was born from those experiences and a passion he later shared with his son’s Chris and Brian.
Upon graduation in 1973, Jeff was proud to serve his country and joined the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany. He later settled in Ben Lomond, California and worked for Ryan Herco Flow Solutions. He soon met his wife Julie Brittain and the couple relocated to Burbank where Jeff became the regional trainer for Ryan Herco’s Tech Sales in Medical & Bio-Pharmaceutical division from 2001- 2008. Representing Ryan Herco, he graduated from Leadership Burbank in 2006.
Jeff truly cared about people and when he struggled with cancer during the early 90s, he never forgot the nurses who cared for him. This profound experience changed the trajectory of his life and he received an RN degree and began working at Providence Saint Joseph’s Medical Center in 2012. He was passionate about nursing and loved precepting new students. In 2017, he was honored with the prestigious Daisey Award for his ‘extraordinary compassionate caring’ of his patients. Jeff was not only an advocate for his patients but also for his fellow nurses. His desire for learning never waned and prior to his passing, he was accepted into the Masters of Nursing Program as well as beginning a new position in management at the hospital.
Jeff was happiest when spending time with his son’s Chris and Brian. From climbing mountain tops to camping at his favorite site at Santa Rosa Island or going for a bike ride, to watching his favorite football team from his sons’ alma mater - Crimson Tide (‘roll tide!’), they were his pride and joy.
Jeff is survived by his wife Julie Brittain Jones, sons Chris and Brian, brother and sister-in-law Rick and Linda Jones and many other close family members. Jeff is also survived by his loving and nurturing family of nurses as well as a family of many, many friends.
“Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what’s to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
but never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey’s quicker,
For some the journey’s slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We’ll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the Lord.”
