OBITUARY

Mrs. Agnes Marie Kumpula

24 May, 1918 – 11 March, 2024
IN THE CARE OF

Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park

In loving memory...

Agnes Marie Kumpula (Sjovold)

Agnes passed away peacefully on March 11, 2024, at Fair Haven Homes - Burnaby Lodge, just short of her 106th birthday.

She was predeceased by sisters Lillian, Ruth, Amanda and Esther, brothers Oscar, Palmer and Alvin and son-in-law Jim.

The loving wife of the late Emil Kumpula for 53 years, Agnes is survived by her children Karen {Art), Judi, Wayne (Lynn) and Glenn (Ann); grandchildren Gregory, Michael, Christopher, Kylie, Aimee, Alison, and Natalie; and great-grandchildren Noah, Ben, Kassandra, Olivia, Julia, Ella, Will, Brynn and Teagyn, and many nieces and nephews.

Agnes was born in Bratton, Saskatchewan on May 24, 1918 and grew up on a farm near Outlook. She lost her father Andrew in 1922 and mother Mary in 1933, leaving her to work the farm with her brothers and sisters.

Agnes moved to Vancouver in 1940 and married Emil in 1942. They moved to Burnaby in 1948 in the house built by Emil. She lived in Burnaby for the rest of her days.

Agnes devoted her life to her family. She was an excellent cook and her recipes are enjoyed to this day by her children and grandchildren. Her kitchen was always open to guests, whether invited or unexpected. She was highly skilled at sewing and passed that aptitude on to her daughters. Her leisure hours were spent bowling in a ladies’ league and attending dances with Emil at the Edmonds Community Centre.

Her final years were spent at Fair Haven where she was treated with great kindness and respect. The family is ever grateful for the care she received at Fair Haven. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please think warm thoughts of Agnes.
