Alfred was born September 7,1933 in Hong Kong. He grew up on his family’s dairy farm in Kowloon, and after the war he attended La Salle College for secondary school. He was very active in the boy scout organization and achieved the highest rank of King’s Scout.
He graduated from Hong Kong University and went to Singapore to go to dental school. Upon his return to Hong Kong, he joined the government dental office and progressed to a senior managerial position. He later went to Toronto for his Master’s in Pediatric Dentistry.
In 1964, he married Annie Kit Chun Wong, his partner of more than sixty years, and together they built a life rooted in family and community. After immigrating from Hong Kong in the 1970s, the Wong Family settled in Burlington, Ontario, where Alfred built a patient orientated dental practice often serving several generations of the same family. After retirement, Annie & Alfred moved to the West Coast, settling in Richmond, British Columbia, where they became part of the St Joseph the Worker parish community.
Alfred had a quiet demeanor but had a good sense of humor and could be very gregarious, especially when he was playing his favourite game of Mahjong. He loved to drive and the family remembers many wonderful road trips to Eastern Canada and the United States. Alfred cared deeply about people, especially his patients, and would often go the extra mile to provide comprehensive care treatment regardless of what they could pay.
Alfred is lovingly remembered by his wife Annie; his daughter Adelina and her husband, Bill; his son Lester and his wife, Ronnie; his grandchildren Tyler, Tian, Aly, and Ria; and his wider family and many friends across Canada, the United States, and Hong Kong.
