Anna was born in Hong Kong in 1937, the 5th of 8 children, and immigrated to Canada in 1967. She settled in Vancouver and would go on to marry KK in 1968. She welcomed her first child in 1969, followed by her daughter in 1973. The young family moved to Burnaby in 1974.
Anna worked at Mount St. Joseph Hospital in the Accounting Department for most of her career until she retired in 1987.
Anna was kind, caring and hardworking. She lived a simple, unassuming life: working, raising kids, managing the household, meeting up frequently with relatives to go for dim sum or to play mahjong, going shopping and out to eat, and looking after her in-laws. In her retirement years, Anna enjoyed going on cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska, and taking trips to tour Europe, US, Eastern Canada, and Asia.
A new chapter in Anna's life began in 2004 when her first grandson was born, followed by three more grandsons in the ensuing few years. She really loved looking after the boys - taking them to the playground, getting them to/from pre-school, and buying them treats. They were her pride and joy.
A recent serious lung infection brought Anna to the hospital and it became clear that her likelihood of recovery would be slim. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones. Anna is survived by her husband, her children and their spouses, her grandchildren, four siblings and dozens of nieces, nephews, and extended family. She will be dearly missed but we take comfort in knowing that she lived a long, healthy life and that we were able to honour her final wishes for a quick and peaceful passing.
A funeral service and interment will be held at Ocean View Funeral Home and Burial Park on August 8 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation in support of the Emergency Department or the Palliative Care Unit.
