Ante (Tony) KULIĆ passed away on Thursday, January 19th, 2017 at 81 yrs. Tony is predeceased by brothers Dujo, Ivan, Mile, and sister MaÅ¡a. He is survived by his loving wife, Maria; his brother Jure; sons Anthony and Marinko; grandchildren Dylan, Ivana, and Ryder; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Tony was born in 1935 in the village, Gala, in Republic of Croatia, former Yugoslavia. Unwilling to serve in the Yugoslav military, Tony escaped his homeland in 1956, immigrating to Canada, via Austria, in 1957. Having trained as a bricklayer-mason, upon landing in Canada he found employment in Montreal. But the seasonal nature of work in his trade prompted him to seek employment in the service sector during the winter months, and there he found steady work with CP Hotels. After stints in Toronto and Banff Tony continued westward to Vancouver in 1962. There he established a career, made lasting friendships and, most importantly, met and married his wife, Maria Å imić, also a recent immigrant from Yugoslavia. In 1973 they settled in North Vancouver where they built a home, raised their sons, and continued to live until Tony's passing last Thursday. Forever in our hearts, '˜Tata' will be sadly missed. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Croatian Catholic Parish, 3105 1st Ave. E, Vancouver, BC, V5M 1B6. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
