Blanche Lea Bell (nee Jarton) passed away peacefully at George Derby Centre after surviving a significant stroke in February this year. Blanche was born in Rockglen, Saskatchewan, the youngest of four children born to Mary (nee Davidson) and Edward Jarton. She was raised on the family farm with a keen sense of independence and a great deal of moxie. In her youth she was known for her superb horsemanship. Moving to Vancouver in her teens she attended John Oliver High School and then trained as an X-ray technician at St. Paul’s Hospital, followed by a career in radiology at Mount St. Joseph’s Hospital. After retiring, Blanche and husband Doug travelled the world with friends and family. She enjoyed music, theater and dancing. Blanche and Doug could dance up a storm. Blanche is pre-deceased by her sister Edith (Stan) Mulligan, and Gene Kupper. Blanche is survived by her beloved husband Doug of 61 years, sister Margaret Kupper and brother Charlie (Vivian) Jarton, along with son Ed (Nancy) Bell and daughter Diane (Brian) Lake, and grandchildren Shannon (Dan), Brianna, Carson and Celina. Her grandchildren treasured the time they spent with their fun loving and always outspoken Grandma. She will be deeply missed by her children and grandchildren whom she devoted herself to giving them all an amazing childhood and guidance throughout their lives. A Celebration of Life will be held at Ocean View Chapel in Burnaby on September 9 at 1:00pm. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of B.C. to honour Blanche and the loving care she provided to Doug, particularly during their later years.
