Our mother Chun-Lin Chou was born August 10th 1918 in Chongqing, Sichuan, China. At that time, Grandpa De-Hung Chou worked in Northeastern China after he graduated from Tokyo University in Japan. He was the Deputy Director, under the Director Xue-Liang Zhang, with the mission to build up the Manchuria Airforce. After Manchuria was realigned with the Chinese central government, grandpa led the Manchuria Airforce with pilots like Zhi-Hung Gao and team, to fly to Jianchow, Hangzhou to enhance the central government's Airforce. Very soon after, the war to fight back the Japanese invasion started, Grandpa was asked by the government to move to the then war-capital Chongqing as the Director of Purchasing and Resource Management for the whole Chinese Airforce. After the victory and the ending of the Japanese war, Grandpa was again asked by the government to help the China's reconstruction, as the Tianjin Tanggu Harbor Master, one of the two main harbors in China. Late 1948, China’s civil war was in full force, Grandpa led the Tianjin Fleet to Taiwan. Even he was wounded during the trip; he had fulfilled his duty and got all the ship to Gao-Hsiung Harbor safely. Mother's childhood and younger days was with Grandpa everywhere, in learning, in exposures as well as purely experiencing and handling different situations.
In 1941, Mother met and married Father Chian-Chu Wang, an engineer working in the oil refinery in Chongqing. After they came to Taiwan, Father worked for Gao-Hsiung harbor and mother worked as an accountant for the Custom Service. Later on, Father was asked by the South East Soda Company of Su-Au city and built the first Soda Ash factory in Taiwan. Meanwhile, Mother helped Father established the Hsin Hsin Chemical Factory which manufactured Sulfuric Acid and its related products. Father was in charge of technology, manufacturing, sales and marketing while Mother was in charge of everything else. In the early days, cooking for the factory workers, delivery of products in cow-carriages, all while taking care of the children was all mother’s job. Although she had to work from dawn to dusk, we at last finally had a stable happy family life during that turbulence after-war time.
In April of 1974, Father and Mother decided to move overseas. Mother took Shaolin, Yulin, Ailin, Linlin and grandson Louie with her to Buenos Aires, Argentina. September of the same year, Mother took Yulin, Ailin, Linlin and Louie to Eugene, Oregon to be united with Tacheng while he was studying there. In 1974, invited by Uncle Yumin, Father closed his business in Taiwan and with Mom and the children, they immigrated to Canada where they resided in Vancouver ever since.
For business and career needs, the children are spread all over in U.S. and Canada. Shaolin and Lo-Yu Sun settled in Seattle; Yulin and Feng-You Miao in New Jersey; Tacheng and Olivia Hsia in Los Altos Hills, California; Tachiang and Theresa Zhang in Vancouver, Canada; Tahsiung and Julie Chang in Hillsborough, California; Ailin and David Lee in Vancouver, Canada; and Linlin and David Hsia in Vancouver, Canada.
Our parents currently have twenty-one grandsons and granddaughters. For each one of them, Mother was there before and during the after-birth-month, taking care of both the new-born as well as the recovering mother.
Mother attended every grandchild’s graduation ceremony whether it was grade school, junior high, high school or college. She cherished them, encouraged them and also gave intelligent lifetime valuable advice to them. The best gift that Mother gave us during our annual family reunion was letting us be deeply touched by the irreplaceable family relationship and tightly grabbed by the everlasting family bonding. This is especially true for the US/Canadian born generations for they have learned the Chinese culture by observing, practicing the core value – Family Bonding. Asia, North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Middle East and the Holy Land were just some of the places we traveled together. Our foot steps were left everywhere and our beautiful memory with Mom with it.
Mother is a generous, selfless and open-minded person with high self-discipline and absolute integrity. Her relatives, friends and Majong companions were all touched by her personality. She always considered other people’s needs first and helped them proactively. She prayed and blessed the children and grandchildren all the time. Mother loves and fears God. Because Jesus’ fragrance flows through her life, she touched many, many people and led them to follow Jesus Christ.
Mother fought the righteous fight, ran the faithful path and is now resting in the bosom of Jesus Christ with her awarded crown. Mother, we are proud of you. Please rest in peace for we will always follow your teaching, your example and reunite together to take care of each other, be the salt and be the light as you have always been.
Mother, we love you, we miss you, and you are always alive in our memory!
