SCALI, Cosimo Damiano It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a great man. Cosimo was born in Mammola, RC Italy on June 2, 1923 and passed away on October 11, 2011 in Burnaby, BC, Canada. After receiving a degree at the Universite du Travail, Paul Pastur, Charleroi , and working in the Belgian Mining Industry he entered Canada via Halifax on March 29 1953, where he worked as a diesel mechanic in Kitimat BC, was a barber in Vancouver and later a custodian for the North Vancouver School Board. Cosimo leaves behind his wife of 53 years Giuseppina, his children Andrea (Brenda), Annamaria (Tom), Roberto ( Cindy), and grandchildren Matthew and Lucas, and many friends and relatives. Cosimo was a philosopher, an academic, an entertainer, an advisor. He loved to play tennis, chess, and would never pass up an opportunity to dance. His spirit, personality, and zest for life were infectious and garnered the admiration, trust, and friendship of many adults and kids alike. Cosimo was very involved in the community and led in many organizations promoting Italian culture. He won the distinct Premio Calabria-America from the Centro d'Arte e Cultura Bruzio as President of Club Mammola of Vancouver. To the very end the gleam in his eye never dimmed and he always smiled when you came by to say hi. Cosimo lived his life with adventure and conviction. He will be sorely missed but we will always celebrate his legacy, with love, tears and humour. We would like to thank the staff at Willingdon Care Center for helping take such good care of our Dad/Nonno. The viewing will be at Ocean View Funeral Home on Tuesday October 18th from 7:00 - 9:00PM. The funeral service will be at Our Lady of Sorrow church on Wednesday October 19th at 10:00AM, with interment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park at 11:30AM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favourite charity or organization. Condolences may be offered at www.oceanviewfuneral.com
