May 8, 1930 - September 29, 2026
Pre-deceased by Sofia, his wife of 61 years, our beloved father, Danilo, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family he loved so dearly. He leaves behind son, Greg (Lisa), daughter Dina (Phil), grandchildren Victoria (Jordie), Steven (Stephanie), Jacob (Lauren) and Lucas. Great grandchildren Lila and Dean.
Dad remained sharp, curious, independent and fully engaged with life until his final days. He was a man who never stopped living, learning or taking interest in the world around him.
Born May 8, 1930 in Loria, Italy, Dad immigrated to Canada after the war, bringing determination, a strong work ethic and a deep commitment to family. As a skilled stone, brick and block mason, with the support of our mother, Sofia and two partners, he built a successful business. He was proud of growing the company and its accomplishments and continued to take an active interest in the business right until his passing.
Family and tradition were at the heart of everything Dad did. In his new home of Canada, he devoted countless hours as an active board member for both the Roma Hall and Trevisani di Vancouver associations, preserving Italian culture and traditions for future generations. Dad remained deeply connected to his roots, returning to Loria every other year and maintaining close relationships with his surviving siblings, nieces and nephews.
Dad also found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved his house and gardening, especially growing tomatoes, he made wine and raised canaries.. He loved a competitive bocce game and was determined to fix anything. Sports were another life long passion. He loved his Vancouver Canucks and enthusiastically followed football, soccer and cycling.
Dad was a wonderful dancer, especially when waltzing with our mother. Their dancing reflected their life together, energetic and loving and perfectly in step.
Even in his 90’s, after Mom had passed, Dad remained fully engaged with life. He was happiest surrounded by family and never seemed to think of himself as old. His mind stayed sharp, his interests remained wide-ranging and his spirit was strong until the end.
His final wish was to remain in his own home and with the love and support of family, that wish was fulfilled. Dad spent his last days surrounded by love and family.
We will remember Dad for his beautiful smile, generosity, resourcefulness and devotion to family and community. We will miss his presence, wisdom, and the comfort of knowing he was always there.
Dad, you built far more than a successful business. You built a life, a family and a legacy that will live on through all of us. We are deeply grateful for the years we shared. Forever loved, forever missed and always in our hearts.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at St. Francis De Sales Parish, 6610 Balmoral Street, Burnaby.
