Denise Bertha Callens

November 7, 1936 – September 10, 2026

Our beloved Mother and Grandmother Denise passed peacefully, embraced by her family in the early hours of September 10th, 2026 at the age of 89.

Denise was born in Tielt, Belgium as the middle of three daughters to Marcel De Meyer and Anna De Winter. She married the love of her life Julian Callens in October of 1955. Their son Ron was born in 1957. In the spring of 1958 the young family immigrated to Canada and started a wonderful adventure. Their daughter Linda arrived in 1960.

They loved to go fishing and camping and travelled with their camper across Canada several times. After retirement, they could be found almost daily at Tim Hortons for coffee break. Denise was an avid baker and always had a sweet treat ready for anyone who dropped by. She always had a jigsaw puzzle on the go by the window, where she could watch the birds she cared for every day.

Through good times and bad, they always found strength in each other and both lived long, happy lives.

Denise was predeceased by her son Ron (2004) and husband Julian (2022). She is survived by her daughter Linda, son-in-law Joel, grandson Jesse and his partner Tamica. She will also be missed by her sister Frieda in Belgium, along with nephews and other family.

Although we will miss her every day, we are happy Mom and Dad are together again as they always were in life.

She did not want a funeral, but would ask everyone to care for each other and embrace the time you have with those you love.
