Don's contributions to the Mennonite genealogy project were invaluable.  Although his technical skills were absolutely key to progress,  even more important was his ability to help others put his knowledge to work for them - teaching them to fish if you will. His cheery voice and positive attitude was always an example for me. Even though we talked frequently by phone,  my regret is that I never met him in person .

The reality that Don, after an extended absence, will not be returning to us at the MHSBC has hit us hard. He will be greatly missed.  We all know and appreciated just how much he enjoyed volunteering at the historical society where I, and so many others, got to know him and be able to seek him out for advice.

Don spent a great deal of time mentoring me when I came on board at the historical society and I will forever be indebted to him for everything he taught me to do.  He was a computer wizard, great coach, project leader and organizer of people and procedures.  The Wednesday & Friday volunteers--we all enjoyed his stories about his beloved grandson and he often, often, brought in lemon poppy seed muffins to share that he had picked up fresh that morning from Save-On Foods especially for morning coffee time.  He was a Folgers coffee drinker and he made sure there was hot coffee made for us all at afternoon break time.  His fingerprints are echoed all over our computer network and the codings he used for the icons on our desktops.  He was instrumental in setting up and doing the genealogical look ups we did for hundreds of visitors at the MCC Festivals over the years and in organizing the Genealogical Workshops for the Mennonite Historical Society of BC every November. (Just to name a few -the list of projects he oversaw is quite extensive, on top of which he served the MHSBC Board for many years and did countless hours of volunteer service from home and also managed the computers for the museum society).
Don has left a chasm that will be impossible to replace.  I, and the MHSBC family, will miss him dearly.  Thinking of you, especially, Doreen & Daughters.  Deepest Sympathy.  My prayers and thoughts are with you and all your family.

I have worked with Don for a lot of years at the Mennonite Historical Society of BC. He seemed indefatigable, and contributed so much, both in technological fixes, and working with staff and volunteers. I truly miss him.
