Lawrence has touched the hearts of so many people. He is an absolute inspiration among the young kids who just started to play badminton.  His love of the game was never ending just like our love for him.  He legacy will live on through the kids that has has inspired.  RIP

Lawrence was a great men. He was the only person that I know being fair and just. 
As an umpire, he ruled the court with authority, stick to the rules, always fair and not God. 
As a coach and teacher, he taught with knowledge, insight, and patients
As a friend, he is friendly, loyal, and helpful.
Most of all, he has heart. The biggest heart that you can imagine.
andthis heart will always be in our heart, and also our BADMINTON HEART.

Lawrence , you have touched so many lives , you will be deeply missed. Badminton has lost a great person! As a mentor, coach and Official. May you wrest in Peace.

Dear Lawrence, it brings me great sadness to hear about your passing. You have been a big part of cultivating my passion for badminton and I will always remember the tournaments you helped organize, the games you played with me at vrc, and the matches you helped umpire. Your love of the game and those around you was contagious and so many have found joy and happiness through your dedication and passion. Rest in peace.

Lawrence and his work with the LMBA was largely influential in my overall development as a badminton player. Without the stepping stone of the 'B' circuit, I may have never found that bridge to get me into the 'A' circuit, the National circuit, and then everything else that took off from there. I also remember having the odd chats with him after tournaments as I continued to grow as a player and he always encouraged me to continue my pursuit of higher level badminton. I would definitely credit him playing a critical role in my badminton development and perhaps I may not have been able to make the Olympics without the impact of his love of badminton and sharing it with everyone. 

Thank you Lawrence, and I hope to share the love of the sport to everyone like you did. Rest in peace.

I owe you many thanks. Or I should say we owe you many thanks. It is my greatest pleasure to have you in my life and played a very impacting role to me that I did not know of until today. I went went through the words you had with me in those days and it still lightens me up. Your works of inspiring to young athletes will not go away. Rest in the hand of the lord.

I met Lawrence on the Silk Road tour in China and I enjoyed his wonderful photography of the sights and scenes of the trip. RIP and our condolences.

Lawrence's leadership and passion for badminton has affected so many in our Lower Mainland badminton community. He will always be remembered for his enthusiasm, humor, and wisdom. Thank you Lawrence for teaching me the ways of the sport and organization.

Badminton is a game for gentlemen and ladies 
That is the first thing that I remember Mr. Ling would say in the first team practice every year, and I still remember vividly the tone he said it.

"Badminton is a lifelong sport", he'd also say, trying to tell us that by taking up this sport, you'll be hooked for life; and I did.

I'd like to call him Mr. Ling instead of Lawrence, even after I graduated and went back to help coaching the team, or when I see him in tournaments, or the occasional time I got to play with him in VRC. It's the respect for your first coach, but more so because of the impact your first coach could leave on you.

There is no doubt that Mr. Ling is one of the most impactful person in terms of badminton in my life, from seeing potential in me and giving me opportunity  while I'm new, to taking in a junior to the senior highschool provincials, to pushing me to take lessons, to joining tournaments, to giving me the opportunity to head coach a team. There's also no doubt that the passion I have for running tournaments came from joining Mr. Ling's tournaments in the past; the friendly yet competitive atmosphere of grassroots tournaments, I will continue to recreate and improve on Mr. Ling's legacy, and hope to inspire the next wave of badminton addicts.

I'll never forget the lessons you taught us on and off the court, and the love of the sport you passed on to us. Your passion will live on through us. May you rest in peace, Mr. Ling, and allow me to extend my sincere condolences to your family.

I am so sorry to learn of Lawrence's passing. I met Lawrence through badminton at VRC.  Over the years, I was able to get a glimpse of Lawrence's many facets:  as a badminton player, an official, and a parent.  Lawrence's sense of humour, sportsmanship, and fondness for badminton shines through at all times  only to be surpassed by his fondness and affection for his children.
Although we, the badminton community will miss him, I wish to offer his family, Ivy in particular, my deepest condolences for the loss of your dad.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I met Lawrence when he officiated badminton events for several BC Winter Games as well as many tournaments in the lower mainland.  He was totally dedicated to fair play and participation for all!  He was a wonderful man and I express my condolences to his family for their loss.

Mr. Ling believed in me when I didn't really believe in myself, and pushed me to grow when I really needed to. It's been more than 15 years since I last saw him, but I shall always be grateful for his teachings. My heart goes out to his family..I am so sorry for your loss.

Lawrence is a legend.  His passion and effort towards badminton has impacted many young athletes positively to this date. Rest in peace.

Lawrence was my high-school badminton team coach for a short-while back in 1999 at Burnaby Central secondary school. Since then I've been playing in his own Douglas B tournaments, later I became a high-school coach and also a national umpire. Kinda follow his foot-step. Lawrence is a good person and passionate about badminton. He is a figure of love in badminton for all of us. Thank you Mr. Ling. You're a great person. I am happy I met you. Rest in peace.

I met Lawrence in 2004 and I know that he has worked tirelessly to promote the sports of badminton.
Lawrence has been instrumental in the shaping of the Greater Vancouver badminton community.  As former president of LMBA (Lower Mainland Badminton Association) for over ten years, Lawrence has organized countless school competitions, tournaments and summer camps.   He was also a former director of Badminton BC where he advocated for the level B tournaments.  As well, Lawrence has volunteered as umpire and referees in tournaments.  
The badminton community will miss his contributions.
I will miss Lawrence as a friend.

We're deeply saddened to hear Ling's passing, right from when we've finally made contact while each of us were busy with our lives before. Learn to seize the moment. Lawrence, you'll be in our hearts for always. May you rest in peace in God's arms.
