Eileen was born on August 23, 1934, in Fergus, Ontario, to parents Walter and Eileen Menzies, the youngest of three daughters. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 22, 2024 in Vancouver, BC.
Eileen is survived by her husband of 66 yrs, Harry, proud mother to children: Caren, Sharon (Jeff), and David (Kathleen). Eileen was also a devoted grandmother to Amanda (Grant), Tyler, Ashley (Marko), Jennifer (Alex), Alexa, and Gabrielle, and a great-grandmother to Peyton, Reese, Charlie, and Cooper. Eileen was predeceased by sister Joan, sister Yvonne and her husband Doug, and survived by her brother-in-law Harvey.
Eileen was raised in Ontario and Manitoba. She always spoke fondly of her younger years and the many experiences she shared with her two sisters. Later in her life, Eileen looked forward to her trips back to Ontario to visit with her family where they enjoyed singing, dancing, and reminiscing about the ‘old days’.
Eileen’s greatest joy was spending time with her family! She was a proud supporter of her children’s and grandchildren’s sports and activities, always there to cheer and support them in all they did.
Eileen was a dedicated and passionate volunteer throughout her life, donating her time to numerous community services and charities. Two that were most important to her were the Sunny Hill Children’s Health Center, as well as working with local seniors in her community.
Eileen's legacy is one of kindness, compassion, and selfless generosity. She had a special gift for making others feel welcome and cared for. She had an infectious laughter and uplifting spirit. Her home was open to welcome friends, family and neighbors to share a good meal and often a shared drink to celebrate holidays and birthdays.
Please join the family to celebrate Eileen’s life and legacy. A Service will be held at Ocean View Funeral Home; 4000 Imperial St, Burnaby on Monday, January 13th at 1:00pm. All are welcome to join the family at a reception immediately following the conclusion of the Service, in the Reception Room on site. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.
