Eileen peacefully passed away in the morning of January 27, 2024. Eileen was born in Hong Kong and moved to Vancouver at 29 to marry her first husband, Harris Bo Sam Lee. Harris passed away after 7 years of marriage. With her two young children, Karen and Kam, she went back to Hong Kong to live with PoPo. After 4 years, concerned with her children’s future, she returned to Vancouver with them.
Eileen worked as a bank teller for CIBC until she married her second husband Wong Chai Fong. They moved to Toronto where they owned the successful Sun Wah Bookstore. In retirement, they lived in Calgary where Eileen enjoyed travelling with Fong on road trips to Vancouver and visiting Hawaii, Japan, and Hong Kong. After Fong’s passing, she moved back to Vancouver to be with her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her enduring fortitude while encountering numerous hardships throughout her life.
She will be sadly missed by her children: Karen Elkan (Ron) and Kam Lee; grandchildren: Jennifer Hula (Derek), Nathan Elkan (Belinda Chi), great-grandson: Ryen Hula. In addition, sisters Lily Ng, Elizabeth Szeto, Josephine Chong (George), numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
