Elena was born at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver on May 15, 1938. Our Mom belonged to the Sacred Heart Parish community, attended Sacred Heart School, and completed her high school education at Van Tech. She was an East Van original! As a young adult, Elena enjoyed being with her family and friends and loved to go dancing, skating, and skiing on the weekends. She took great pride working as an administrative assistant at her various jobs, including at Vancouver City Hall, the Vancouver School Board, BC Place, BC Hydro, and UBC.
On August 15, 1959, Elena married the love of her life, Carlino (Carlo) Passaglia, at Sacred Heart Church. Together, they built a family with faith and love and enjoyed 28 years together. Being a wife and mother brought her great joy and fulfillment. In 1987, her husband, Carlo, passed away. Our Mom was also predeceased by her parents, Angelo (1975) and Flora (2003) Visentin.
Elena is lovingly remembered by her children Laura (Reg) and Derek (Sussi); grandchildren Christina, Benjamin (Megan), Jessica (Anthony), Angela, Devin, and Ashley; great-grandchildren Elijah and Madilyn; her sisters Claudia (predeceased by Franco) and Adriana (Stefano); and numerous relatives and long-time family friends.
Our Mom will always be remembered for being a loving wife and mother, devoted to her family and friends, faith-filled, and fiercely independent.
The family wishes to acknowledge the love and care our Mom received at Ridge Meadows Hospital Rehabilitation Unit in Maple Ridge, Queen’s Park Care Centre in New Westminster, and especially Chénchenstway Care Home in Burnaby, her final home.
