

Elsie Mary Blanche Blazma (nee Bernier) was born Feb.4th/1931 in Hudson Bay Junction, Saskatchewan to Edgar and Catherine Bernier. The town is now known as Hudson Bay. Elsie was the youngest of 6 children. She had 1 brother who served in the army in World War II, and 4 sisters who she was very close to.
Elsie lived on the farm just outside of Hudson Bay with her parents and siblings. Her parents owned and operated a dairy farm and delivered and sold milk, cream and butter. She spent many hours helping make the butter. Elsie attended school in Hudson Bay and completed her grade 12. In 1940 Edgar and Catherine (her parents) moved into town and on March 27, 1946 Edgar passed away. Catherine Bernier continued to live in Hudson Bay until she married Roger Weston in 1949. Catherine and Roger retired to Vancouver in 1952.
In 1967 Elsie married the love of her life, Walter Balzma. They lived in Vancouver in a house and later moved Elsie’s mother into their home to help care for her. Elsie cared for her mother in their home till they had to place Catherine in a nursing home. Elsie was a devoted daughter and continued to visit and volunteer at the nursing home.
Walter was a carpenter and Elsie worked in a dry-cleaners. Elsie and Walter loved to travel. Many trips were taken to Reno and Vegas, Disney World and Disneyland and Nashville , to name a few. Elsie also loved to garden and took pride and joy in her garden and her lovely flowers. Another thing Elsie loved to do was shop. She could be found making many trips to the mall to buy gifts for her friends and family. Elsie enjoyed a wonderful life with Walter by her side. Elsie was saddened on April 12, 2003 when Walter passed.
Elsie’s strong faith and many wonderful friends and family continued to fill her life. She continued to travel with her friends and her sister Violet. Elsie and Vi took many bus trips and met more friends along the way. She also continued to volunteer at her church, St. Patrick’s, whenever needed.
On Jan, 2012 Elsie moved into Broadway Pentecostal Lodge. Elsie continued to enjoy many wonderful friends and her family and enjoyed making new friends in the Lodge. She enjoyed all the visits and phone calls she received while living there. On March 16, 2013 Elsie passed away peacefully.
Elsie is predeceased by her husband Walter, her parents Edgar and Catherine and step-father Roger, brother Wilfred and sisters Violet, Jeanette, Stella, and Eva and all their spouses.
She is survived by many loving nephews and nieces and their families and her wonderful friends.
God has called her and now she is with her “Almighty Father” and her loving husband and family. God be with you. Rest in peace. Love you
