Mrs. Eunice Margaret Chomos

Eunice was born in High Prairie, Alberta, on March 8, 1938, to George and Clara Ragan. She was the eighth of fifteen children and, with seven older and seven younger siblings, proudly considered herself the middle child. Growing up in a large family with modest means, the Ragan children learned to share what they had and to find contentment in the simple things. What mattered most was not material things, but the love, loyalty, companionship, and sense of belonging they found in one another. These early experiences helped shape Eunice’s deep appreciation for family connections, traditions, and the joy of being together.

In High Prairie, Eunice met the love of her life, William “Bill” Chomos. They married in April 1957 and started a family soon after. Their daughter Janet was born in January 1958, followed by Lorne, Barbie, and Murray. Eunice often amused others by saying she had four children under the age of four.

In 1960, Eunice and Bill moved their young family from Alberta to Burnaby, British Columbia. Burnaby remained their home for more than six decades, until they moved to Coquitlam in February 2022 to live with their daughter Janet and son-in-law John.

Family was at the center of Eunice’s life. She cherished her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as her extended family. She made a special effort to keep family connected, even when distance separated them. Holidays, including Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving, were important occasions, as were birthdays and anniversaries ending in zero, summer reunions, and any opportunity to gather around a table and share stories. She believed in the importance of family and worked hard to keep those bonds strong.

Eunice also had a lifelong love of golf. She spent countless hours on the course and formed many lasting friendships through the game. She was a member of the Ladies Golf group at Burnaby Mountain Golf Course for 50 years, where she enjoyed both the sport and the companionship. She was a competitive golfer who loved to play—and those who knew her well may remember that she was not always especially patient with a slow group ahead of her!

At home, Eunice showed her love through cooking, baking, cleaning, and caring for others. She took great pride in keeping her home immaculate and was happiest when she could help make things comfortable for the people she loved. Family gatherings often featured her much-loved cabbage rolls, chicken paprikash, and signature desserts, including the grandchildren’s favourite ice cream pie.

She loved listening to music, singing, and dancing in the kitchen, as well as the energy and company of young people. Her sense of humour was one of her many gifts. Her children’s school friends, nieces, and nephews will remember her warmth, her laughter, and her love of sharing stories—stories that sometimes grew a little more colourful with each telling. She had a wonderful ability to make people feel part of something, and her love of togetherness created memories that will be treasured for generations.

Eunice will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 69 years, William “Bill” Chomos; her children, Janet Krgovich and her husband John, Lorne Chomos and his wife Linda, Barbara Chomos and her partner Chris Burrough, and Murray Chomos; her grandchildren, Nicholas Krgovich, Stephanie McAleenan and her husband Andrew, Michael Krgovich and his wife Bronagh, Tyler Chomos and his wife Robyn, Stacey Custodio and her husband Mat, and Taylor Carr and her partner Evan Langendorf; and her great-grandchildren, Hunter, Keelie, and Nash Custodio; Penelope and Theo McAleenan; Nora and Clark Krgovich; Kashtyn and Kenzie Chomos; and Wynter and Doran Langendorf.

She will also be lovingly remembered by her surviving siblings, Bernice Brillion, Donna Ragan, Kenneth Ragan, Ozanne Gustafson, and Brian Ragan as well as by her many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Eunice was predeceased by her parents, George and Clara Ragan; her siblings, Stanley Ragan, Frederick Ragan, Patricia Smith, Allyson Chemerinski, Joseph Ragan, Linda Mullin, Dwayne Ragan, James Ragan, Ronald Ragan; and her daughter-in-law, Sandy Chomos.

Eunice’s life was rich with love, family, friendship, laughter, music, and golf. Her generosity, humour, devotion to family, and determination to keep loved ones connected will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
