Franc Noc

7 October, 193310 February, 2020

NOC – Franc, born October 7, 1933 in Koroska Bela, Slovenia, passed away peacefully on February 10th, surrounded by family and close friends. He will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 57+ years, Friderika, his children Anna Marie (Andrew) and Michael (Claudia), and his grandchildren Siena, Harrissen, Matthew, Danielle and Marcus. He is survived by 3 brothers and a sister in Slovenia, plus many nieces and nephews. Franc loved adventure and travel, which brought him to Canada in 1956. As a young man, his work as a tile craftsman led him to jobs in Australia, Japan and other towns in BC. Upon returning to Vancouver, a young Slovenian girl caught his eye, and they married in 1962, settling in Burnaby to raise a family. He loved the mountains and the outdoors, so Whistler became a frequent family ski destination. Franc and Frida settled there in the early 80’s, as the lure of the mountains that resembled his childhood home could not be ignored. Franc will be remembered for his sparkling blue eyes, his easy grin and his love of a good story. Thank-you to the care staff at Squamish Hospital and Inglewood Care Centre who supported him in his final months. A Christian Celebration will be held Saturday, February 22nd at 1100 am at St. Helen’s Parish 3860 Triumph Street, Burnaby BC. A reception in Franc’s honour to follow in Burnaby. Everyone is welcome to come and share a story or song and celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Noc family,

It is an honour having known Franc. He was a hard working family man that contributed generously not only to the family, but also to Slovenian Society. His hard work will never be forgotten.
We had a pleasure of spending a couple of weeks together on vacation which we will not forget.
We hope that you all find peace and strength in prayer and memories.

Wonderful man, Franc did the tiling in my new house in Whistler. I had no idea what it would look like when finished. Franc said, leave it with me. He came up with fabulous tiles with amazing design. He put them in with pride. He and I sat there when it was all finished. He didn’t shake my hand, he gave me a hug. Mike was on our Ski team at the time. It was a fabulous job. He put his heart and sole into it. Right there, I knew where Mike got his conviction from, His work ethics and his love for what he does and his smile.

So sad to here of his passing. We always wish our parents are with us forever. We find out later that they are . in our hearts and mind. Never gone, never forgotten.
