TAKAKI, Jean Fumiko 1916 - 2016 In loving memory. On Friday December 9, 2016, as the new day's dawn broke, snow falling on the ground, Jean Fumiko Takaki awoke as she always did, giving thanks to another day. Though she was frail and tired, her spirit was full of grateful appreciation to be able to draw another determined breath every second she was on Earth. Jean passed away peacefully at Banfield Pavilion a few hours later. Predeceased by her husband (Frank) and survived by her sister Toshiko (Bill),brother Roy (Lil) and two sons Stan (Tsuneko), Don (Akiko), grandchildren Kevin (Megumi), Kenji, Bradley (Chikako), Koji, great grandchildren, Hugo and Lana. We all remember her happy laughter and great memories of camping, travelling and gardening. Jean was born on October 8, 1916 in Mission City, BC. She left to Japan with her youngest sister in 1939. While she was in Japan, she married and worked as an English teacher in a public school, and also worked as a translator at an American military base. Jean returned to Canada and settled in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1955. She worked at the Lethbridge Municipal Hospital and met many good friends. We recently celebrated her 100th year birthday with friends and families. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vancouver Buddhist Temple or any other Nikkei organizations. A service will be held at Vancouver Buddhist Temple at 220 Jackson Ave. Vancouver on Sunday, December 18 at 11a.m.
