

April 6, 1927- December 21,2018.
In loving memory of Gino Antonio Slongo who passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family December 21, 2018 at Vancouver General Hospital after suffering a stroke. Being born in a little town called Pez in the province of Belluno, Italy, he made the journey to Canada in 1957 where he prospered and made a difference in the Italian Community in and around Vancouver. His contagious laughter will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years Anna; Children Monica (Ben), Fabio (Anita), and Piera; Grandchildren – Mathew, Andrew, Mario, Emilio, Alana, Ashlyn and Rayya. Gino is predeceased by his four sisters and survived by his two brothers in Italy. He was an inspiring, loving father who was devoted to his family. Gino was also a man of many talents and interests who was involved in many activities and groups. He was an avid gardener, with a very green thumb. Whatever he planted seemed to grow in abundance. Examples of Gino’s gardening gifts are the fruits, trees and vegetables that he successfully grew in the garden. Gino was a constant member of the Italian centre, helping in the Kitchen, and cooking Pasta for Bingo on Sunday nights once a month. He was also musically involved in the Alpini Choir / Alpini group / Alpini band - where he played the tuba, and participated with the Italian choir of BC. Gino was always full of energy. He loved to dance and sing and play cards. Gino also loved to travel to Mexico and Italy and visited Chile to spend time with his sister. Evening visitation to occur on Monday January 7, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home (3789 Royal Oak Ave. Burnaby, BC). Funeral Mass to occur on Tuesday January 8, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Parish (5251 Joyce St., Vancouver, BC). Private cremation to follow directly. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gino’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.
