January 31, 1942 - May 4, 2017
On May 4, 2017, we suddenly lost a devoted and loving husband, Dad and Nonno, Giuseppe "Joe" Cerra. Survived by wife Linda; children Alita, Armando (Atiya) and Delano (Violet); grandchildren Armand, Giselle and Avianna; brother Sandro (Soraya); sister Liana (Saverio); as well as Zio Joe (Carmelina), Zio Armando (Silvia) and Zio Mario. Predeceased by infant daughter; parents Luigi and Maria; and brother-in-law Harry Carey. Born on January 31, 1942 in Calabria, Italy, his family moved first to Blandy Les Tours, France and then immigrated to Vancouver in 1957. In 1966 he married Linda Ann Carey and they raised three children. Joe loved wood'the way it felt, smelled and looked. As a commercial painter and woodworker/refinisher he made beautiful stools, coffee tables, armchairs and cabinets. He was "Daddy Fix" because whatever broke, he could fix it. Joe loved his extensive tool collection and workshop, presents, photographs, reading, making wine, jarring tomatoes, Western movies, the steering wheel from his beloved 1964 1â„2 Mustang, soccer and, most of all, boxing. As a young man, Joe was a featherweight boxer at the PNE and continued to be a huge boxing fan his whole life. His grandchildren meant everything to him. He was their chocolate dealer and spoiled his "Jo Jo" rotten. Dad, you fixed everything for us, but you cannot fix our broken hearts. We miss you and love you forever. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing would be greatly appreciated. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, 525 Slocan Street, Vancouver, BC. Entombment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park, Burnaby, BC.
