Gyan Lal

Gyan Lal of Vancouver, British Columbia passed away peacefully on August 25,2026 at the age of 88. She was born on August 11,1938 in the city Tavua in the beautiful country of Fiji. She was the third child in a family of twelve.

She is predeceased by her parents, Ram Sarup (Sanichari), and her brothers and sisters, Satya Wati, Ram Pratap, Ram Prasad, Ram Nath, Ram Harak, Ram Kumar, and Grace Wati. She is survived by Raj Kumar, Maya Wati, Shri Ram, and Lata Wati. Gyan is predeceased by her son, Jayant Lal. Gyan is survived by her son, Vinnie Lal (Jinnefer), her daughter, Lalita Lal (Ronnie), Lalita’s son, Danzel, daughter-in-law, Anita, her daughter, Natasha and many nephews and nieces.

Gyan loved to visit families and friends. She aways had candies, cookies, and fruits for them. During her early years, Gyan really enjoyed sewing, socializing with many people, and riding on a motorcycle! Also, she had an interest in playing soccer with her brothers. The joy of seeing movies was another enjoyable experience for Gyan.

In February of 1973, Gyan began a new and significant chapter in her life. She moved from her country of Fiji to Canada, a land of opportunity. Here, she worked hard as a full-time nurse’s aide, a housekeeper, and as an owner of a laundromat for many years. She did an excellent job in cleaning a physiotherapist’s office in East Vancouver for forty-five years. Many people described Gyan as a workaholic. From our family perspective, Gyan felt that working hard was very necessary in being a productive person to our society. Gyan worked until the age of 82. She was also viewed as being a very stylist person who loved to dress up!

Gyan became a Christian during her time in Canada. She was a prayerful servant of Jesus Christ for over thirty-five years. Prayer and reading Scriptures on a daily bass were very important to Gyan. She was a valuable member of City View Baptist Church and loved to worship every Sunday. Here, she served meals every week and always supported anyone in need. Gyan loved meeting new people and encouraging the youth. She was a very practical and authentic Christian who experienced many healings, signs, wonders, and dreams from God. Gyan’s love for God, family, church, and community will be a lasting legacy for us all. We will miss her deeply.

A Funeral Service will be held at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, BC, V5J1A4, CA, on September 3, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

A Reception will follow at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, BC, V5J1A4, on September 3, 2026, from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
