On August 9, 2026, Hector Nicolson of Vancouver, British Columbia passed away at the age of 65 years. Born October 2, 1960, Hector’s life spanned years marked by duty, steadfastness, and a quiet care for those around him. He will be remembered with respect and affection by all who knew him, and he will be dearly missed by his friends and the staff at the Brock Fahrni Pavillion long-term care home.
Hector spent his entire life serving in the military, including time in the Golan Heights, Germany, and other postings. To many, he could seem “crochety” and gruff at first glance, yet those who truly knew him recognized the gentleness beneath—someone whose kindness was consistent, whose loyalty ran deep, and whose protective nature extended to his sisters and to anyone he chose to hold close as “his.”
Hector was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Thomas Simeon and Martha Simeon (Marks); his paternal grandparents, Hector Nicolson and Jane Anne Margaret Nicolson (Nicholson); his mother, Nancy Rose Nicolson (Rosaline Nancy Simeon); and his sibling, Nora Nicolson.
He is survived by his father, Alex Nicolson; the mother who raised him, Gloria Nicolson (Willie); his daughter, Amanda Nicolson; and his grandchildren, Amara, Annabelle, Kinslee, and Liam. He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings: Dorothy Paul (Nicolson) (Dave), Dawn Nicolson, Kristine Speier(Ingo), Marianne Nicolson, and Midori Nicolson (Salvatore Raniolo).
Hector will be remembered with love by his nephews Ryan, Jericho, Mattias, Aiden, Gaetano, Alessandro, and Lukas; his nieces Nikita, Desiré, Sophia, and Juliana; and his grandnephews Maximus, Xavier, Brendan, Caelan, Ryan Jr, Conor, Casey, and Jericho Jr.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 30, 2026, at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 179, 2205 Commercial Drive, Vancouver, BC V5N 4B6, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of the late Hector Nicolson. His presence, his devotion to service, and the steady compassion he showed in his own way will not be forgotten.
