It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our father, Hi Vuong at 93 years old.
He is survived by his wife, our mother De Vuong who is his first & only love for 70 years, eleven children & their spouses, twenty grandchildren & their spouses, and four great-grandchildren.
Our parents’ love story is a true “love at first sight” experience. Their love for each other was evident with their routine Sunday lunch dates enjoying their favorite fried chickens before grocery shopping. They were inseparable. Despite many hardships during his sea voyage before arriving in Canada, his proudest achievement was having kept all his children safe. Our father had always provided unwavering support and guidance in our life decisions contributing to our own life accomplishments. His grandchildren will always remember his dedication with early morning school drop-offs & afternoon pick-ups in his orange Mazda and then in his red Toyota.
Aside from his main occupation, our father was an avid ping-pong athlete. He started his
training at the age of eighteen and was very passionate about this sport. He won many Canadian and out-of-country tournaments. His trophies fill the living room wall-display. Upon his retirement, he frequented the Vancouver Table Tennis Club & Bonsor Community Centre for his weekly ping-pong regimen. His dedication won him “1st Place Over 60 Seniors Singles” at the “2000 Seattle Open”. In June 2009, the BC Table Tennis Association featured him in their newsletter (Vol. 3 No. 2) referencing his life journey and sport achievements at the BC Senior Games. He was well-respected by fellow ping-pong athletes. His children and grandson inherited his talent and as a result of his devoted coaching & encouragement, they are carrying on his ping-pong legacy. In his spare time, he painted beautiful Chinese landscape paintings. Each of his children owns these invaluable paintings in their homes.
We know our father (grandfather/great-grandfather) as a man of integrity, hard-working, and easygoing. His smile and laughter will always be engraved in our hearts.
“We love you.”
