Hilary Mason, aged 82, of Burnaby, BC, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026. She was born March 20, 1944, in East London, South Africa.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Hilton, with whom she raised seven children. Together they later found great joy in helping care for their grandchildren, filling their home with love, laughter, and family.
Hilary loved getting out and enjoying life. Whether it was travelling, going to the theatre to see live plays, meeting family for coffee, or trying a new restaurant, she was happiest when she was out and about. She had an adventurous streak and never lost her sense of fun—even well into her 70s, she could still be found riding rollercoasters.
She had a lifelong love of animals, especially her beloved cat, Mittens. She enjoyed music, knitting, watching cooking shows and her favourite soap operas, and she loved gardens. She often spoke fondly of her mother's vegetable garden back home in South Africa, a memory that stayed with her throughout her life.
Above all, Hilary loved her family. She is lovingly remembered by her seven children: Debbie (Steve), Paul (Anna), Michelle (Chris), Steven (Rebecca), Chrissy (Kevin), Greg (Cherie), and Natalie (Cam). She was a proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren: Gabriel, Kaitlin, Alyssa, Hannah, Jenna, Natasha, Keira, Emma, Matthew, Wynwood, and Boston, and she was eagerly looking forward to welcoming her twelfth grandchild.
Hilary was predeceased by her parents, Lo Tat Choy and Ah Silk Mooi Eason; her husband, Hilton; and her siblings Mona, Yuen, David, Johnny, Robert, Dorothy, Eddie, and her twin brother, Graham.
