Born in the German-settled village of Neu-Elft in then Romania (now Ukraine). An only child, her rural life was simple but good until the turbulent war years forced her family to pack up what would fit onto a horse-drawn wagon and leave their homestead forever. Joining other refugees on the dangerous trek of resettlement through Eastern Europe to Germany, where in 1949 she met Alfred. Married in 1950, Mom & Dad wanted to pursue a life together, where opportunities were only limited by the hours in a day, so they packed up the little they had and in 1951 immigrated to Vancouver. They worked extremely hard, invested wisely in real estate and built a successful life for themselves and their family. They enjoyed traveling, but mostly she loved being at home. Big parties on the patio (though this meant lots of work preparing the feasts), Friday night card games, tending to her fabulous plants, or spending time in her kitchen, she was happy. Predeceased by Alfred in 2011 after 61 years together, she is survived by her son Harry (Karen) grandchildren Erica and Daniel, and her daughter Ruth (John), grandchildren Katrina and Conrad. Mom, thank you for providing us with a good & loving home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 on Friday, December 5 at Ocean View Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oakridge Lutheran Church or The Kidney Foundation.
