Mrs. Joan Barbara Wilkinson

Formerly Chew, née Mitchell passed away peacefully on October 18, 2013 in her 87th year, with her family by her side. Beloved wife of the late J. W. Wilkinson and V. Brian Chew, dearest sister of Gerry (Cliff) Hill and Peter Mitchell. Sister-in-law of Barbara (George) Baldwin. Loving mother of Barbara Chew, Sandra (Graham) Allen, and Anne (Peter) Dawkins. Proud grandmother of Christie (Shawn) Shewchuk, Julia, Peter, Michael and Brian and great-grandmother of Riley. Joan was born in Vancouver on June 18, 1926, attended Crofton House School and received her honours B.A. from Queen's University. She loved to travel and had many magnificent experiences living abroad and spending holidays with cherished friends. She was a master gardener and that skill was always in evidence at her beautiful family cottage. She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. Special thanks to her devoted caregivers Hilda, Mila and Judy and for the wonderful attention she received at The Arbutus Centre. There will be a private family church service, followed by a celebration of life to be held at Marine Drive Golf Club, 7425 Yew Street, Vancouver on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.
