His family moved to Canada during elementary school, when he became John Lee. In 1985, he graduated from Sir Winston Churchill Secondary. He graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Metals and Materials Engineering in 1991. The previous year, John met his bride, Irene, at the UBC Dance Club. They were married in 1996. They traveled to compete in ballroom in Europe and Asia, stopping with the birth of William in 2001. John spent hours coaching William’s soccer teams, 5-18. In 2007, they welcomed Nikola. John mentored Nikola in soccer games and refereeing. John said that his greatest legacy was his children.
The Lees visited their extended family in the US, Europe, and Asia. In 2020, when his mother suffered a stroke, John renovated his home to accommodate her hospital equipment. He used his strategic thinking to lead the boys’ soccer teams and his businesses to success. He is sorely missed by his family and friends. John is remembered for his sharp business mind, his practical wisdom, and his unwavering belief that time spent with family was the greatest investment of all.
