Josefina Gabas

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Josefina Dickinson Gabas, who passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, at the age of 85.

Born on December 24, 1940, in Manila, Philippines, Josie lived a life defined by love, kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. She touched countless lives with her generous heart and remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. Her love extended far beyond her immediate family to her many friends, sisters, brothers, and extended family, whom she supported with unwavering generosity throughout her life in Canada.

Josie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Crispiniano "Bayani" Gabas, who passed away in December 2010. Later in life, she was blessed to find love again and married Carlos Hernandez, whose steadfast love and support became her strength and comfort throughout her courageous battle with terminal illness. She was a loving and devoted mother to Evangeline (Shawn), Genie (Jim), Eric (Joanne), and Twinkle, and a proud grandmother to Courteney, Caela (Brian), Aly, Christian, and Noah. She was also a cherished great-grandmother to Thomas and Oliver. Family was the center of Josie's world, and her greatest joy came from celebrating life's special moments with those she loved. She took immense pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and treasured every opportunity to care for them and witness their accomplishments. Beyond her family, Josie dedicated many years to working in health care at Kitimat General Hospital, where she served her community with compassion. Kitimat was the town where she and Bayani raised their children and built a life together. A proud Filipino immigrant to Canada, Josie became an active advocate and volunteer, championing multiculturalism and supporting her community. She was known for her warm spirit, vibrant social life, and the many lasting friendships she formed over the years. Her loyalty to family, resilience, generosity, and dedication to helping others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Josie is survived by her brothers, Frederico Jr and Edgardo, and was predeceased by her parents, Frederico Dickinson and Pacita Tampico, as well as her siblings Adoracion, Rogelio, and Manuel.

A Funeral Mass will be held on July 23, 2026, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather in celebration of Josie's life, to share memories, and to honor the remarkable woman she was.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in the love she gave so freely and in the legacy she leaves behind. Her memory will forever live in our hearts, guiding us with the same grace, strength, and unconditional love she shared throughout her life.

May she rest in eternal peace.
