Josip Jurilj

Josip’s parents and older brother migrated from Turić, Bosanska Posavina to Slavonija, Croatia in 1933. Josip was born in Privlaka on May 25, 1933. He later lived in Komletinci & Posavski Podgajci before immigrating to Canada in 1957.

After a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer, he passed away on January 7, 2018 at the age of 84. Josip was predeceased by his wife Maria (of 48 years) in 2008. He will be lovingly remembered by: Anka Šužberić; Brother, Petar; daughter, Nada Butković; sons, Petar, Ivan (Carol) and Josa (Josip Jr.); Grandchildren, Štefa Woo, Toma Butković, Martina and Riley Jurilj; Nieces and Nephew: Maria Besedić, Barbara Edwards and Mike Snarić as well as many relatives in Croatia.

Josip was a 60-year member and volunteer of the United Croats of Canada and the Croatian Cultural Centre as well as the Croatian Church in Vancouver. He had a great love for his community and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Services to be held at the Croatian Catholic Parish 'Immaculate Heart of Mary', with Prayer Service Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 7pm and Funeral Mass Friday, January 19 at 11am. Interment in Ocean View Burial Park's SE corner with reception to follow at the Croatian Cultural Centre, 3250 Commercial Dr., Vancouver.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Josip’s name to the BC Cancer Society.

The memory of his generosity, warm nature, love of music, kind words and sharp sense of humor will always warm our hearts.
