I am grateful for a great lady, who raised such a nice friend.I know from Linda's stories that she passed on many good things. May the many memories of her bring the family comfort and dwell in the hearts of all who she touched.
May she rest in peace and be free of her earthly restrictions and be reunited with her loved ones who passed on before.

The June Nichols I knew was a lady. Alone and a 'new Canadian' (because that's what immigrants were called in those days), I was skinny and wore the shortest of mini skirts and way too much makeup. Despite my oddness, and perhaps because of it, she opened her arms and her home to me when Linda and I became friends.  June carried herself regally; her makeup and nails were always perfect, and I never saw her with a hair out of place - probably because she slept with a roll of toilet paper! She embraced fashion, kept her elegant black high-heeled pumps well shined and was one of the first women I knew to give up garter belts and stockings in favour of the newest fashion craze - panty hose! 

There was a sadness about June, which may have contributed, in my mind, to the genteelness of her person. I never knew her to say anything bad about anyone and felt a kind of kinship in our shared loneliness. She pined for one reason and I for another; we never spoke of it but both knew.

June was also funny. When I slept over the three of us would sit in pyjamas, eat popcorn and watch late movies. I can't remember why, but we invented an imaginary friend, Sylvester the Spider, who wore sneakers and lived in the basement of her apartment building. In high school we made up many stories about Sylvester, and June always assured us that she put milk and cookies out for him at night. We laughed a lot.

June had all the poise and attributes of a lady, including beautiful handwriting, which she passed on to her daughter. A mother's influence is never forgotten and Linda learned many things from her mother, over and above what a parent usually teaches a child. She learned about loyalty and endurance and giving to others. Linda, in turn, taught her own children, June's grandchildren, these truths as well.

In later years June's health suffered. She had a heart attack and bypass surgery, a fractured hip and massive stroke. And somewhere along that difficult path she lost the essence of who she really was. But I didn't, and Linda certainly didn't. The last time I saw June, Linda and I took her for coffee on 4th Avenue, our old stomping ground. Frail as she was, and forgetful, she still remembered Sylvester and we shared one more laugh.

My deepest condolences to the family on the loss of a great lady.   I have so many lovely memories of spending time with Mrs. Nichol's, wonderful Christmas's spent with the family, our talks when I would pick her up or drive her home - always a comforting word.  Truly a beautiful lady.   Thank you Linda for sharing your mom with me for many years.   She will always be  in my prayers..   I know that she is now at peace and re-united with Denny , sharing all the wonderful stories of the family.   Love Tina xoxox

I have many fond memories of my Nana. She was such a big part of my childhood...sleepovers in Kits that involved trips to the beach. Her gifts at Christmas were like works of art, the way she wrapped them. She was so crafty, something I unfortunately did not inherit from her. She didn't have the easiest path in life, but she put it all aside to be an incredible grandmother. I will miss her and love her forever.
