January 26, 1935 – January 3, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, “Bump” and friend. Ken is survived by his loving family, wife Diane of over 53 years, daughters Erin (Andy), Patrice (Paul) and granddaughters Marron and Cali. Ken was born and raised in the East End of Vancouver with his lifelong buddies John Bate and Dick Ainsworth and was proud to call himself an East Ender. He raised his family in the Killarney area before moving to Burnaby in 1994. Ken retired in 1992 from the printing industry after which he enjoyed many years travelling the world and plenty of good times at his second home in Birch Bay, Washington.
Ken dedicated many years of his life to coaching soccer and softball as well as umpiring for Victoria Drive girls softball. For over 30 years Ken was on the Vancouver Metro Soccer League Disciplinary Committee and retired this role four months before his passing. Ken also managed the BC Sugar and Royal Oak soccer teams. Ken took up golf in the 80’s and joined the Men’s club at Guildford Golf Club with his good friends Brian Travis and Dick Thomas. The three of them are together again doing what they loved to do.
Ken was a selfless and honest man who adored his girls and had many great friendships. The family would like to thank Ken’s close friend Jim Welsh who gave endless hours of support and friendship to Ken and Dr. Edward Luke, Ken’s family doctor who treated Ken as more of a friend than a patient.
Please join us for a celebration of a life lived to the fullest on Friday, January 20th at 1pm at Burnaby Mountain Golf Club, 7600 Halifax St, Burnaby, BC V5A 4M8
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to KidSport Canada.
