Kenneth Alden Hayman
January 13, 1934 – January 16, 2025
Our dear Kenneth passed away 3 days after his 91st birthday on January 16, 2025. Grieving the loss of this wonderful human being is his long-time partner Edwina Shuster, his surviving siblings, Pat Pascoe (Glenn), Donna Ishida (Danny), Doug Hayman (Jane), Debbie Passmore (Thom). Ken was pre-deceased by his parents Alden and Mae Hayman, his brother Ron Hayman (Marilyn) and his sister Claire Lincoln (Ned). He will also be very missed by his many nieces and nephews; Shawn Hayman, Allison Ishida (Julian), Sharron Ishida (Darren), Mark Ishida (Lauren), Amy Banks (Jonny), Beth Boyea (Tom), Chris Hayman (Kim), Terry Hayman (Faith), Leah MacMillan (John), Kathy Pascoe (Youri), Tim Pascoe (Susan), Steve Passmore (Glenda), Erin Passmore (Greg), Laura Passmore (Steve). He also leaves Edwina’s brother, Peter, niece Tiara, and nephews Keane and Gage.
The family moved from Toronto to North Bay when Ken was a teenager, and his parents’ home became the place where all the family would continue to gather for many years, particularly at their lakeside home. Ken moved to British Columbia after university to further his career as a pilot and ultimately became a Captain with Canadian Pacific Airlines. Ken took early retirement after purchasing a huge property on the ocean in Lund, north of Powell River. This was Ken’s happy place…a place he loved and came alive in as he wandered his forested acreage and watched the boats from his lovely beach.
Such a lovely man, our Ken…kind, honest, eccentric, interesting, generous, an avid collector of anything and everything, and a true gentleman right to the end. He was knowledgeable about many things, loved a good discussion and had the ability and special gift to be able to fix most anything he put his hand to. What a bright mind! Consequently, it was very distressing for him to lose so much of his memory and other facilities as he suffered with increasing and very debilitating dementia, particularly over the past few months.
Ken was a wonderful partner to Edwina, a devoted son, and special brother and uncle. The entire family will miss him terribly but ultimately find joy in our many memories.
