We share with profound sadness, the passing of Kenneth King on August 21, 2025
Born and raised in Kimberley, South Africa, Ken graduated in Architecture at the University of Cape Town and later completed Town Planning at the University of Witwatersrand.
After immigrating to Canada in 1974 with his beloved wife, Gloria, and their two children, he dedicated his life to both family and city. He began his career in Canada as an architect before joining the Vancouver Planning Department in the Urban Design Group, and then as the Planner for Fairview Slopes. In 1981, he established his own practice, Kenneth E. King – Architect, Planner, Urban Design, Interior Design. His vision was to build communities with care, efficiency, and sustainability.
Ken was a proud member of the Broadway Lions Club. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he represented the University of Cape Town as a table tennis player. He will be remembered for his sketchbooks and doodles, his signature dimples, and sense of style. He will be cherished for his kindness, warmth, generosity, humour, and for his gift of connecting with people in a way that built friendships that lasted a lifetime.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Gloria; children, Darryl and Alison (Stephen); and grandchildren, Owen and Ella. He is also survived by his sisters Felicity (Lau), Freda (Ron), Verna (Peter), and his brother Des (June), along with their families.
The visitation took place at Forest Lawn.
