Mr. Kenneth Ken Joseph Smith

Kenneth Joseph Smith April 30, 1940 - January 14, 2010Ken died peacefully following five years of living with lymphoma. He endured his treatments with a cheerfulness and confidence that were a wonder to all who knew him.Ken will be remembered with respect, admiration, love and affection by his family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances. Survived by his beloved wife D'Arcy Bader, daughter Michelle (Brent) Currie, two sons Brent Farquharson ( Sharon) and Kent Farquharson; five grandchildren; Whitney and Joshua Scott and Alexander, Mitchell, and Alicia Farquharson, brothers; Tom (shirley) and Douglas(Donna), sister; Ann Bodnar ( Alex), nephews; Cameron Bodnar, Spencer, Dean and Andrew Smith, niece; Jennifer Smith. He was predeceased by his parents Kenneth W. Smith and Marion Clemens and his stepmother Pat Lawrie. Ken was appreciated at the Deep Cove Yacht Club, the BCTF and the BC Retired Teachers Association for his attention to detail, communication skills, knowledge and wisdom. Many people turned to him when problems needed thoughtful solutions. Ken lived a full life. His interests were many, including traveling, cycling, boating, and genealogy. He was particularly proud of having ridden his bicycle across Canada in 2004. He was never happier then when he had a project, whether it was using old motors to make a fan for the boat, or building a garden wall. Inventing new uses for old objects brought him joy, not the least because it saved money .. He worked with precision and care on everything he did.Well known for his humour and wit, Ken was always ready with a quip or a pun. He laughed readily and was a joy to be with. As a husband, father, grandfather and son. he was caring, thoughtful, and generous. His family is grieving deeply, and will never forget all the wonderful time spent with him. A memorial service was held at Ocean View Funeral Home on Saturday, January 23rd at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the B.C.
