Yeye is a man who loves his family very much and I'm fortunate to always feel that from him. I'm glad I could spend time with him while growing up in Canada and visiting him after I finished college. He was a hardworking and generous man and I'm proud of him. 

This is my last picture with him 1.5 months before he passed away. We shared a lot of laughs and he always called me his 寶貝 ("baby"). 

He lived a full life and I'm sad to say goodbye. I know he's on the other side with those that he loves. I love him and I'll miss him until we meet again.

My father-in-law was a caring and giving man. I’ve received many things over the years from him. His kindness, loyalty, generosity and many more, to friends and family.

He raised his children and family so well, set living examples to them. I’m so thankful and grateful for his wonderful influence to my husband that brought us a loving family today.

It was with great sadness that i heard of the passing of your sweet father.  He was a gentle man, with such a pure soul and generous spirit.  You can see his love and warmth shine through in his family, and how you all remain so close.  I always felt safe when he came to visit the yU+co studio, and that everything would be ok knowing that he was watching out for us.

My Grandpa was a determined man, he has taught me a lot about perseverance and hard work. He grew up in hard conditions but he was able to make a good life for himself. I will always treasure the memories of  the way you welcomed me into your home when we first met in 2010. You were filled with warmth and joy and really made me feel part of the family. This was my first proper introduction to Chinese New year which I really enjoyed.

You were so kind, always checking I was warm enough, that I had enough to eat, that I didn't mind eating Chinese food, and (my favourite!) if someone should take the white girl home now because it's late. You always think of others and make sure they are comfortable and have enough food. 

I love the fun and silliness that runs in your family that was very evident that Chinese New year and is one of my favourite things about Raymond. 

I was really upset to hear of your passing and more so that we can't be there to support Por Por and the rest of your family right now. I hope you are at peace now and that we may one day meet again.

Mr. Yu always has a smile on his face and very generous in nature.  He also very generous and I remember him buying four tea leave favored eggs from our Zion Fellowship fund raising event and he ate them all in one setting, much to the amazement of Dr. Albert Wong , I guess he was worry about Mr. Yu's cholesterol level at that time. And he also gave my husband Alan a ten year old Po Lei Tea Cake one year when he was the church administrator and we still have half of the cake left untouched.

In my brother's whole life, he gave all his love to loved ones and friends. Having gone through the hardships of life, he developed the personality of perseverance, optimism, and diligence under God's blessing. As his believe in God grew deeper, he and his family were all blessed by Lord.

I miss visiting my brother in Vancouver in 2018, and I never thought that brief meeting would be a farewell. Men have sorrow and joy, they part or meet again, but Lord's love is eternal. May his spirit rest in heaven, may our Lord be with you, Brother Ki Sui Yu.

Together with Elaine (Ah Kim), they became invaluable family members for us here in Vanvouver having assisted us in so many ways to start our lives here.  We would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation.   We will treasure and remember those moments when we visited Ah Koo with his warm greeting and giving thanks to God.  He will be dearly missed and may he rest in the peace of God.

Uncle s kindness and patience will be fondly remembered. 

My earliest memory of Uncle 8 was a face with a big smile and always greeting me with warmth. He’s like an all year round “Santa” to me during my childhood. I remember when we would meet at family gatherings he would always come and spend time with me. Always, whenever we would arrive, he would notice me and immediately come to me. We have so many uncles and aunties around during those occasions and they would always be busy doing adult things... uncle 8 will always approach me from the crowd, pull up a short stool and make a genuine effort to play with me, talk with me, playing his famous “disappearing nose” trick to make me laugh. We would laugh together with pure innocence. I will always cherish that smile, that laughter, his genuine kindness and humility. An inspiration for being kind, genuine and caring for others. 

I will always miss you Uncle 8. Much love. 



I am also sharing a few memories from my parents (Mary and Alan Chan) as they are not very savvy with tech.

- His diligence: he was studying hard in our majong room as he wanted to pass the exam to be captain of the ship. He was already 2nd to the captain at the time. 

- His care for others as a leader: he would give out medicine to his crew and earned a nick name “the Doc” on the ship. 

- His care for his roots: he would proactively offer help and support people from Xiamen (his hometown) in China Town in Vancouver. 

- His selflessness: Mom says he’s actually not very patient for the game of Majong. Yet he would participate relentlessly as an effort for building relationships with family and friends. He always wanted to maintain a harmonious situation.

- His generosity: too many to list... e.g. whenever my parents would visit him and aunt in Vancouver, he would ask them to stay for months! 

- Dad remembers most of his humble soul. 

You will always be in our memories. 



余伯，得悉你安息主懷，我們都十分難過，你息了世上的勞苦，現在天堂享安息，我們日後在天家再見。

難忘過往你與姊妹們在崇拜後一起往餐廳午餐，席間談笑風生，你告訴我們在海上行船生涯中的點滴，在以斯帖團團契周會前的午餐，你也在我們當中，你是”萬紅叢中一點綠”，直至你的健康轉差，不能再回教會聚會。

I will always remember my grandpa as a quiet, gentle soul, whose love for his family and friends is rivalled only by his concern for his fellows in society around him. Whether it is a memory of his firm insistence to treat his grandson to yet another run around the Uncle Willy's buffet bar, or that of the sheer joy on his face when surrounded by his family at Chinese New Year, my thoughts of him are of good times alone. As I write this, I struggle to recall specifics of when he was firm and strict; he knew right from wrong, and he would unerringly teach his children and grandchildren of the difference, steadily guiding and shaping us to the success we enjoy today, but those memories fade against those of the wonder he brought to a child with his kindness, and the warmth he brought to a grown man returning to his childhood home to visit family. 

He will be missed by those he left behind, but I trust he will continue to watch over and guide us for our years to come. May he be at peace, and rest safe in the knowledge that he has enriched the lives of those he has touched.

I love you every day.
And now I'll miss you every day.

(Part 1) 
My father, Brother Yu Ki Sui was born on May 25, 1928 in Xiamen City, Fujian Province, China. He passed away at the Fellburn Care Center in Burnaby, Vancouver, Canada on the evening of March 29, 2020, due to his physical weakness in his old age. He died at 91 years old.
 
In the whole life of my father, he was loyal, kind, approachable, diligent and studious; he loved his wife, children and grandchildren and always supported and helped in charity and always showed gratitude.
 
My father was originally born in a privileged family. Our great-grandfather Yu Kam Tong was an established scholar in late Qing Dynasty, but since the change of state power, the condition of the family became strained. Grandfather, Yu Kai Cheong and grandmother, Wong Oi Lin, died during the war when they were still young. My father was then fostered by his second auntie, Yu Pui Lan. In the age of thirteen years old, my father took a boat heading to the south for Hong Kong. He was taken care of by his relatives and friends when he settled down in Hong Kong. He began to help with chores in the houses and families of relatives and to learn how to do trading business. 


(Part 2)
Attributed to his diligent work, my father, together with his business partners, started a trading company called Zhongnan Trading Company, running an import business of live hogs from Taiwan, in association with Mr. Chen Qi, the chairman of the Hong Kong Meat and Food Chamber of the Chamber of Commerce, our grandfather-in-law. Through the introduction by Chan Shun Sun, the second uncle-in-law, my father got acquainted with his younger sister, Chan Shun Wan, our mother who was working as a nurse in the clinic which was set up by my father at that time. Having seen my father's kindness in always giving medical assistance to the poor, my mother’s admiration to my father grew in her heart. Their love was nourished by always being together to the extent that they finally got married with each other. Time passed quickly. In a few years, my mother gave birth to five children who are the eldest daughter Kwun Chu, the second son Chi Wang, the third son Chi Yuan, the fourth son Chi Hong and the youngest daughter Kwun Wah. 


(Part 3)
Not long after, my father disbanded his company because of disharmony with his partners. For the need of carrying responsibility for family livelihood, he later got a job, introduced by his friend, working for a shipping company as a shipowner's representative. Since then, my father began his shipping career. Some years later, he changed to work for another shipping company, the World-wide Shipping Company, owned by Mr. Bao Yuk Kong, for twenty-five years. Through his enduring effort and continuous study and being praised by the shipowner of his loyalty and honesty, he was promoted from the third officer to the first officer position. In his shipping career, he took pride in discovering a newly-born island accidentally in one of his maritime voyages, of which the island had not yet ever been recorded on the sea chart.
 
My father had been very much in deep concern about his home town fellowmen. Although he had moved to Hong Kong, he never forgot the love given by his home town fellowmen who had taken care of him in his childhood. Even when he was sailing on the sea, he often reminded my mother to mail living expenses and clothes to the relatives and friends in Xiamen for showing his gratitude in return.
 
My father did good deeds for others, respected his elders, and taught us by example. By his subtle teaching, all brothers and sisters in the family always bear in mind about social ethics and responsibilities.
 
My father was diligent and hard-working. As we witnessed, he always used his leisure time to study when he was back home, aiming to accomplish the marine officer license examinations. In doing so, people admired his perseverance indeed.
 
Every time when my father went home, he brought back souvenirs and local products from overseas. Our brothers and sisters swarmed towards him when he stepped into the door, then opened the suitcase, and looked for various gifts brought by him. We even turned a blind eye to the intimate embrace of my parents.
 


(Part 4)
After having served in World-wide Shipping Company for 25 years and retired in honor, my father, together with my mother, followed their third son, Chi Yuan and immigrated to Canada, and started their retirement life after having settled in the City of Vancouver. Sooner or later, my parents converted to the gospel through the introduction of our tenth-auntie-in-law, Chan Mo Ching, who lived in the United States. Both of my parents were baptized at Chinese Alliance Church in the City of Richmond in 1994. Later on, they often participated in church worship activities, reading scriptures and singing hymn songs.
 
In the participation of community activities, my father actively helped provincial and parliamentary councilmen in their elections, while he acted as the President of the Vancouver Fujian Fellowmen Association.  He also pro-actively promoted the community cultural activities organized by the Chinese Cultural Center and Yixing Society in town. He was one of the popular and influential overseas Chinese leaders in Vancouver Chinatown. 
 
My father had a comfortable and happy retirement life in Vancouver, but, due to his aging, he entered the nursing home after a colon-rectal surgery. Since then, he had been living in the nursing home for more than 9 years. During his stay, my mother went there to join his meal and chat with him almost every day. In Lunar Chinese New Year, my father was surrounded by his children and grandchildren who greeted him, making him laugh in joy. From his mouth, he often said "Thank God! Thank God!" when he spoke to us.


(Part 5)
My father was a philanthropic person who had deep care and concern about the poor and education.  We followed his wish to donate a school in China on his behalf as his 90th birthday gift. On March 29, 2019, my mother, representing him and accompanied by his second son Chi Wang and his wife Wai Ching and his third son Chi Yuan, attended the building establishment ceremony of the school, in the name of “Mr & Mrs Yu Ki Sui Central School”, at Yiu Juk Township, Lung Syun Tong, Hung Gong City, Wu Naan Province. My father expressed his appreciation when he realized that his wish had been fulfilled.
 
Now, my father has been received by the Lord and rests in peace. He was hardworking, diligent and righteous in his life, treating his relatives and friends well, and was always respected by his family members and friends. Now, all his children have successful careers living with good foundation and happiness, and are in unity of a big family of four generations. May we be always in memory of his good contributions to the family and his teaching about how to do good in our life. May his spirit rest in heaven, and because of his good deeds in his life, blessings will be descending from heaven upon to our generations to come, with great gratitude to God.

"Big Brother  Yu has gone ".
Remember I first know Yu was early 50's I was his family doctor but very soon we became close friends. 
I last saw  him was about two years ago in the nursing home in Vancouver, though he didn't say much but apparently he was quite well; only refused  to go out for dinner with us.
So many things let me think of him when he was working as a representative of a shipping company he always brought us some souvenirs. 
During the past some twenty years whenever I've visited Vancouver we stayed in his nice two stories house for two-three weeks or so. We  had nice time together and we feel at home because he made us very comfortable and easy going. My wife was a good listener and very interesting whatever he talked about his adventures and his own stories. 
Really I had too much things to think about him....let it be kept in my mind forever. 
In Bible St.John chapter 14-2:
"IN MY FATHER'S HOUSE ARE MANY MANSIONS, IF IT WAS NOT SO,I WOULD TELL  YOU I GO TO PREPARE A PLACE  FOR YOU ......."
Be peaceful! There will be a nice place for him.

非常懷念余弟兄，記得每次見到他，他的話語內容都是感謝神，後來他告訴我，他年青時從事航海事業，作為船長，每次出航都身繫多條人命，也就是說，他的帶領影響着多個家庭的命運。幸好他是基督徒，他完全的倚靠主，謙卑的求主保守和帶領，而每一次的出航，就是一次經歴神的經驗，每一次的狂風暴雨，更是一次神恩典的領受，航海生涯令他澈底感悟到人的渺小和神的偉大。我因此得知他的謙卑，使他成為一個知足和常存感恩心的基督徒。
他的見證令我大受感動，也給我很大的啟發，他真是我輩基督徒的榜樣。
現在他安息在主懷裡，得着恩主的安慰和獎賞，同時，我知道神也一定眷顧余弟兄的家人，祂的慈愛和恩典必與他們同在!

He is easy going and always with smiles on his face.  His presence had always brought us with unlimited and unforgettable joys and happiness. We will miss him.

I miss visiting you in Vancouver for Christmas, opening presents by the tree and playing with the RC truck I got that year.

It is beyond doubt that Dad loves us. He seldom punished us even if we were naughty and had done things wrong. Even if this was inevitable, the punishment was only done with canes made of newspapers.  

He taught us how we should behave, be honest, punctual and always humble. We will keep these and all he have taught us deep in mind.  During his stay at Felburn Care Home, I found myself very lucky as I have lots of opportunities to meeting him, to staying with him and chatting with him on subjects of lovely memories. 

I know how valuable I was in his mind and will miss him forever. 


Dad was a content and happy person for I have never heard any whining or making grievance from him, ever! He never blamed others or the world. He embraced all kinds of situation open-heartedly. 

He was a such a jolly good person!


Dad, 

I couldn’t even begin to tell you how much I miss you now. You gave me life and had been a model father teaching me to be a jolly good person – positive, kind, generous, forgiving and responsible. You provided me a home with a wonderful mother and 4 brothers and sisters bonded by and filled with abundant love.   We love each other for you first love us.  Because of you I have a perfect fulfilling life that I couldn’t ask for more. For all of these, Dad, I am so thankful, so thankful to be your son. It hurt so much when hearing the news you died. Grief dawned and literally my heart ached.  The only consolation I had was we should meet again at the house of our Heavenly Father.

My uncle was kind and he loved to help.  He took care of my dad when he left for Australia to go to school.  Though far away, my uncle arranged for someone he knew to meet my dad when he first landed on the new continent.  My uncle loved children.  As a little kid, his warm hugs and genuine smiles made me feel close to him, even though we didn't spend much time together.  His house is filled with love and joy, and I always feel welcomed.  I remember the special trick he does every time I visited, and it always made me laugh.  Years later, we met again in Vancouver, this time with my son.  We shared stories from long time ago, and uncle gave us his rich blessings. 
Thank you, uncle.  We will remember you always. 

“Come, come, Lung Keung, sit next to me” I visited him during his leave/vocation back to HK. He dragged my hand warm and powerful. Act as a palm reader, it’s part of the skill to open up the communication with our youngsters. He touched us to respect your parents, follow your path, don’t force yourself to your extent - it’s destiny. The most important - Be thankful always 

After years, I came to Vancouver in last Spring, 
Cousin Roland took me to him in the Senior Home. We played, chat and took pictures, enjoyed every single moment. We had a lovely gathering. Just like back to our old time. 

To my respect Uncle 8, deep in my heart as always. 

Although I do not know Mr. Yu personally, he is the father of Mr. Jerry Yu whom I have great respect for. I believe Mr. Jerry Yu takes after his father. Called home to be with the Lord and together with the army of angels watching his family from above. I hope Mr. Yu's family will stay strong and not grieve too hard on his passing.

很抱歉听到这不幸的消息！希望余叔叔和余夫人能节哀顺变。

余叔叔是我父亲的好友，也是我的人生导师，这些年对我的帮助和教诲我一直铭记于心，一生感激。对于余叔叔父亲的事情，我十分难过！希望余叔叔和余夫人可以尽早走出这片阴影，好好振作起来，保重身体。 

由于疫情的关系，我和我夫人这次不能亲自前往表示哀悼，只能寄托于书信，对此我们非常抱歉！最后还是希望余叔叔和余夫人能好好保重，不要过于悲伤。



’龍強，過嚟，坐喺八姑丈 旁邊‘ 不常回港的他 當他在港時 我都會跑到探望他，他會拖著我手 親切溫暖 以看掌相為中心 用心跟我們小朋友 溝通及教導 孝順父母 一切有命運主宰 順其自然 不強求 去接受 懂感恩

在去年春天 到溫埠旅遊 Roland表弟 接我到療養院 探望 拍照 興奮地聊天

尊敬的八姑丈 永遠留在心中 

I remember Mr. Yu always have a smile on his face. Very generous, he gave my husband Alan a tealeave cake when he was working as administrator for our church. Also supported our Zion Fellowship fund raising event. One time he bought four tea leave floroured eggs and finished eating them at one sitting. To our friend Dr. Albert Wong's surprise. 

很懷念與余伯下棋的時刻，求主安慰及賜力量給余太與他的子女。
