It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of King Leurk Cheng on August 3, 2026, at the age of 87. He passed away peacefully with family at his side at Burnaby General Hospital. He has now gone to join his beloved wife, Siu Wan, and his mother, Sun Kuk Chu.
Born in Toisan, Guangdong, China, King Leurk took a brave step toward a brighter future for his family when, in 1973, he immigrated to Canada with Siu Wan and their three young children. After settling in Canada, their family grew with the arrival of two more children.
A quiet, dependable, and hardworking man, he provided for his family through decades of dedicated service at Yuen Fong Company on East Pender. Everything he did was rooted in a simple and unwavering devotion to caring for those he loved.
King Leurk found true happiness in life's simple moments. He loved good food, enjoyed watching soccer, and quietly conquered countless crossword books, leaving absolutely no page incomplete.
In his later years, he happily took on the role of Siu Wan's trusted sous-chef, proudly chopping and preparing ingredients while confidently claiming absolute mastery of steaming the perfect sticky rice. Together, they spent countless happy hours side by side, preparing meals for their family.
Later in life, he also enjoyed travelling on cruises. The family would like to extend special thanks to his sisters-in-law, Sandy and Cynthia, for including him on their many wonderful trips.
He is survived and deeply missed by his children, Donna, Lana (Ragnar), Anna, Ivy (Kevin), and Irene, as well as his grandchildren, Emma, Markus, Katie, and Dylan.
