

On a sunny Vancouver day, March 18, 2013, Ladislao Gamboa Urrutia peacefully passed away into the arms of heavenly angels. A long time and proud resident of Vancouver, better known as Laddy, Lading or simply Kuya, he was born June 27, 1935, in Manila, Philippines. He immigrated to Canada in October 1968. He was predeceased by his parents, Eustaquio and Dominga Urrutia. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Maria Ramos Urrutia. Blessed with two sons, he will always be lovingly remembered by Karlo (Nhaji) Urrutia and Ken (Jocel) Urrutia, and grandchildren Kaden, Nikodemus, Kyzec, Karlinha, and Kennedy. The eldest of 11, he will be greatly missed by his brothers and sisters and their families: Cresing (Eddie-deceased) Benavidez, Beth (Maurie-deceased) Gulapa, Mario (Norma) Urrutia, Zeny (Tony-deceased) Magno, Romy (Hermie) Urrutia, Jesse (Ila) Urrutia, Rey (Linda) Urrutia, Eddie (Loida) Urrutia, Lita (Robert) Trinidad, and Willie (Nica) Urrutia. A gentle caring man, Laddy had enjoyed a full life with family and countless friends. He will be famously remembered for always sharing and enjoying his passion for dancing. An early pioneer of Filipino immigrants, he along with Maria helped establish and actively support many Filipino community groups in Winnipeg and Vancouver. A Prayer Service will be held at Corpus Christi Parish, 6350 Nanaimo Street, Vancouver on Friday, March 22nd, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Parish on Saturday, March 23rd, 2013 at 11:30 am. Interment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, BC.
