

He was born in Hong Kong on August 22, 1930. While WWII deprived him of regular schooling in his teen years, he graduated from evening school at Hong Kong Technically College and worked as a civilian technical supervisor for the British Forces Hong Kong from 1953 until his retirement in 1990. He married Lai Ching Mak in 1959 and they raised four children. Other than having specialized skills in telecom radio equipment maintenance, he was known for his gift in carpentry. In 1994, he immigrated to California, US for retirement until 1998 when he immigrated again to British Columbia, Canada to live near his son. Lai Sun and his wife became Christians and got baptized in 2004 at Burnaby Alliance Church, where they were supported by many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Lai Ching, of 51 years; his children Frank, Carmen, Andrew and Sik; and his grandchildren Timothy, Rebekka and Anthony. Lai Sun will be remembered for his dedication to his family. A man of few words, he commanded great respect from his sons and daughter for his perseverance, faithfulness and selflessness.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at The Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, British Columbia. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 5:00 – 7:00 p.m..
