It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother Lucy Shatzko on November 2, 2010, just 3 months short of her 103rd birthday. Lucy came to Canada at the tender age of 19 from Belarus to seek her fortune. She fell in love with Canada and in 1932, married Nick Shatzko in Edmonton, Alberta, where they resided until 1967, at which time they moved to Vancouver B.C. Gardener par excellence, competent baker, pioneer recycler, skilled handicrafter, Lucy maintained an avid interest in politics, particularly throughout her golden years. She was predeceased by her husband Nick in 1975. Lucy is survived by her loving son Ed, daughter Violet (Don Lutzak), grandson Dr. Greg and granddaughter Natalie (James Wyrostok). She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed. The family wishes to thank the staff of Holy Family Hospital for the loving and compassionate care of Lucy during the past 20 months, with special thanks to Maureen Cruz. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, BC on Wednesday, November 10th, 2010 at 10:00 am, with Father Evstafiy Hripunov officiating. Internment to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Section of Summit.
