Mario Seccia

JANUARY 18, 1930 – FEBRUARY 20, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Brother-in-law, Brother, Uncle, Great Uncle and good friend, Mario, on February 20, 2023 at the age of 93. Born in Ortona, Abruzzo, Italy. He is survived by his Sister-in law Maria Cristina, Brother Antonio (Perdy), Nephew David (Rina), Nieces, Janet (David), Giuliana (Tony), Sonia (Claudio), Rose (Tim), great Nieces, great Nephews, good friends, and family in Italy.

Mario first immigrated from Italy to Buenos Aires, South America in 1949 at the age of 19. Three years later, Mario settled in Edmonton, Alberta after working himself from Buenos Aires thru South, Central America & B.C. He was joined by his older brother Giuseppe in 1952, and later his youngest brother Antonio in 1955. They moved to Prince Rupert, B.C. in 1955 and Mario did various jobs and became a great carpenter, building houses while living with his older Brother Giuseppe and family. Forward minded and driven Mario made his way to Vancouver, B.C. in 1967. His brothers joining him shortly thereafter and together building and achieving a better life and future. Mario’s passion to play Tennis and Badminton made him long lasting friendships along the way, never forgetting and keeping in touch with his childhood friends.

Zio Mario will forever be remembered with gratitude and respect, he was humble, generous, freedom loving, independent, strong minded, kind, generous and all around good human being who loved his family fiercely and selflessly, along with his pets.

A very special Thank You to the Staff at Renfrew Care Home who took great care of our Zio the last three months of his life.

Thank You to Lina at Annie’s Place, and the Caregiver’s patience, compassion, and understanding of his needs and changes.

We are very grateful and thank our family and friends who have shown us support.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Parish – 1450 Delta Avenue, Burnaby, B.C., V5B 3G2

Entombment will be held at Ocean View Burial Park - South Mausoleum at 12:30 pm – 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, B.C., V5J 1A4

In lieu of flowers, donations to the B.C. Children’s Hospital would kindly be appreciated. Mario strongly supported and believed in helping Children.
