

KONISHI - Fred (Misao), passed away peacefully, Tuesday, October 17th, 2006, aged 72 years. Fred is survived by his son, Paul; daughter, Farida; granddaughter, Michelle; brother, Karl Konishi; sisters, Mary Konishi of Burnaby and Aguri Matsimoto of Japan as well as his nephew and namesake Fred Yasuda also his niece Jean Yasuda. Predeceased by his wife Neeltje (Nell), brother Kunio Konishi; sister Kay Yasuda and nephew Roy Yasuda. Fred will be deeply missed by his family and many friends at George Derby Long Term Care Centre where he rekindled his artistic and creative side. It was there that he learned to do the textile art forms, weaving and bargello at which he excelled, winning many first prize ribbons, including an Exhibitors Choice Award at a Textile Art Show put on by the Burnaby Arts Council. An exhibition of his work was also displayed at the National Nikkei Heritage Centre in November 2005. His dedication to his work was an inspiration to his fellow residents and Staff. Fred was proud of his status as a Veteran of the Korean War and his various Canadian Peacekeeping missions. He will be fondly remembered for his winning smile, his tireless spirit, his kindness and generosity. There will be a viewing from 6:00 8:00 p.m., Friday October 27th 2006 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 28th, 2006 in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations to either the Korean War Veterans Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
