My husband, Dave, and I got to know Monique through her good friend Paula.  We enjoyed Monique's sense of humour and her lets-have-some-fun attitude to life.  I enjoyed occasional visits to her apartment to meet with her friends and share food. Watching Monique "mother"  her dog Viggo was often entertaining.  That dog  was her child and she was very devoted to him.  We will miss her as will many others.  Dave and I send our condolences to Monique's family and her many friends.

I first met Mon thirty-one years ago when we worked together at Star Shipping. Back then the marine industry was thriving and it was a pretty fun place to work. She was wonderful to work with — conscientious, creative, and calm in the face of fast-moving, ever-changing demands. But her best quality was her quirky sense of humour. Even with deadlines looming and pressure building, she kept everything in perspective.
I had fifteen great years working alongside Mon and there was never a bad word between us — well, maybe one on my first day, but she soon put me in my place.
I was lucky enough to share another sixteen years with her as a treasured friend. Carol and I moved from Vancouver to Penticton and eventually to Powell River, but we always stayed close. We loved having Mon visit, and in recent years she came twice with her lovely friend Vicky, who quickly became our friend too.
Mon had a rare gift for friendship. She gathered people into her life and enriched theirs as they enriched hers. She was fiercely loyal — if you were her friend, you were in for life. Her family meant everything to her as well: her mum and dad, her sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins — all held very close to her heart. She built a life surrounded by people she loved dearly, who loved her just as much.
And then there was Vigo — arriving later, perhaps the final joyful piece of her puzzle.
Even through her final months battling a cruel disease, she never lost that spirit, humour, hope, and love. Her friends rallied around her as best we could, but she was the one who showed us, right to the end, what courage and grace truly look like.

I am greatly saddened to hear of the passing of Monique. She was a good friend to me in the short time we knew each other. She loved Viggo dearly and we enjoyed walking our dogs together through Central Park. She had a bright, kind, and caring spirit and I will carry her warmth with me into the future. She will be deeply missed. My deepest condolences to all who are touched by her loss.

Although I haven't known Monique as long  as many others, my heart is warmer because of her friendship.  Her spirit, kindness, and her beautiful soul have left us way too soon.  I cherish the time I was able to spend with Monique, to get to know her, have some great conversations and laughs and I carry those lovely memories of her (and Viggo) into the future. Monique was a gem, a sparkling treasure to all she knew.
We were neighbours first and then became friends around the time of her 60th. BIRTHDAY.
Over the years we shared birthdays, walks, meals, drives to the Okanagan and the love of her special little boy, Viggo.
I had the pleasure of meeting most of her family and some of her many close friends.
She was generous, caring, fun and I feel grateful for the times we shared and for being included in her life.
I will remember her dearly and will never forget her.

I can’t believe I am writing this. I met Monique through work back in 1991. Her beauty and presence totally intimated me but it didn’t take long to realize that there was so much more to her.  Funny, optimistic, adventurous, and a beacon of positivity.  She made me laugh over the silliest things. She full-on loved her sisters, her nieces and nephews, and her friends (of which she had so many).  My deepest condolences to all those who knew her because you couldn’t help but love her.

I met Monique over 20 years ago through my cousin, David. We had so much fun with Monique over the years. Lots of laughs! Most recently Monique hosted me and my dog. We had such a lovely visit. Rest in peace sweet Monique. You are missed.

I was a casual friend of Monique having met her through Paula. I enjoyed the times we spent together and referred to her as my “concert buddy”. I will always think fondly of those days.
