Moon Yuen

A man of many talents and a true adventurer, Moon immigrated to Vancouver in 1952 at the age of 14 and spent his formative years in Saskatchewan and Winnipeg. Upon his return to Vancouver, Moon tested the waters in several vocations including mechanic and restaurateur. Moon was an active member of the Ching Lian (Chinese Youth) Association, where he volunteered and served as the editor and publisher of their weekly newspaper.

Moon moved the family to Coquitlam in 1981, where they continue to build a life in the Tri-Cities to this day. During this time, he also spent 35 years as a sawmill worker at Flavelle Cedar in Port Moody. Upon retirement, Moon dedicated much of his days perfecting and tweaking recipes, to which his family gladly served as guinea pigs. His roast beef, rack of lamb, holiday turkey and Macao-style Portuguese chicken will fondly be missed, along with his Gong Gong wontons and Gong Gong gravy, which were favourites of his grandson.

He was a man of great determination, selflessness and generosity – always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family – while his devotion to his family was unwavering. Moon will lovingly be forever remembered for his jovial nature, kindness and booming voice.

Moon is survived by his wife, Kit Ching; children, Yvonne (Edward) and Simon; and grandsons, Ezra and Milo.

A visitation for Moon will be held Monday, June 12, 2023 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home – 3789 Royal Oak Ave, Burnaby, B.C. V5G 3M1.

我們懷著沉重的心情告別袁健文，他於 1937 年 11 月 3 日出生於中國廣東台山，並於 2023 年 5 月 28 日在Port Moody安詳離世。

健文是一個有多樣天份和敢於接受挑戰的人，他 於 1952 年在 14 歲時移民溫哥華，並在Saskatchewan 和 Winnipeg度過了他的成長歲月。 回到溫哥華後，健文嘗試從事過好幾個行業，包括汽車修理和短期經營小餐館。 他是溫哥華青聯會的活躍成員，他在曾那裡義務擔任中文周報的編輯和出版人。

健文遺下妻子任潔貞 ， 女兒皓（婿愛德華）, 兒子振鵬； 外孫子勁軒和浩軒。
