To the Chan family,

I met Nancy over 27 years ago at IRCC and I'll never meet someone like her who was so compassionate and generous with her time and good cheer. She will forever be alive in our hearts. I'll miss our lunch meet ups, our informal book club, and her travel stories. We shared so many common interests.... Volunteer work, animals, Japanese cuisine, literature, and travel. She made her friends feel special when it was her all along. I'm sorry I wasn't available to attend the funeral but please know that she mattered a great deal to many near and far. She was a special person and I'll never forget her.

We appreciate all the support from Nancy’s colleagues and supervisors who came to her celebration of Life. Nancy is beaming from above; we appreciate our friends and business colleagues who also came out to support the family during this difficult period. I would also like to thank Jesse and other staff members, at Forest Lawn, who provided so much care and support for the family. Life has its challenges but it’s so much better when everyone shows their love and care for Nancy and the family members.

Nancy was a wonderful friend and coworker. She was smart, competent, meticulous...and she loved to laugh over coffee and talk about the things that interested her most: travelling, writing, Josephine and Napoleon. I'm sorry I wasn't able to attend her celebration in person, but her family should know that everyone liked her and thought highly of her personal qualities and professional abilities. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Nancy's family,

My heart goes to you during this difficult time. Nancy was truly a light to everyone who knew her. May the memories of your wonderful time together bring you comfort. I will always remember chatting with Nancy about her trip to Japan and France (most recently). Every time we had a call on MsTeams she would hold Marco up to say hello. I can't believe Nancy is no longer with us. Last time I spoke to her we were planning for her to visit Ottawa. She will always be in my heart. She was a wonderful colleague and a friend. I wish I could be there by your side to say goodbye to Nancy. Our dear Nancy will be missed by many. Thinking of you in this difficult time, Evguenia (Nancy's friend at IRCC)

I worked with Nancy for over 7 years and she was always a joy to work with. She was a great team player, had a depth of knowledge that we all appreciated, was always looking to better herself and was just a bright light in our team. Although we rarely had the opportunity to connect in person as I am located in Ottawa, she definitely was a part of our IRCC family. She was passionate about anti-racism, equity, diversity and inclusion and made many contributions to raise awareness on those issues and to make advancements to ensure everyone felt safe to be their authentic self and everyone felt included at work.
Nancy's passing was unexpected and as we process the news, I cannot imagine how this must be difficult for Nancy's family and friends. I'm sending my deepest condolences and hope that your memories with Nancy will bring you some comfort.
All my best,
Anik

Nancy, I will not forget you. I am so sorry that we didn't get to finish our plans for lunch together this month. You have been such a good friend over the years. I hope your family has many happy memories of you to help them get through this loss. You should have been with us for much longer. I hope that the cat pictures I sent you made you happy! You always laughed at my stories and jokes. That's a good friend defined. :)

We made a valiant effort to keep this group in touch over the years. We mostly moved into different jobs or retirement as time passed. These group meals were something we all enjoyed as often as once a month. Somehow the time got away from us and we haven't met like this since Covid. I'm so sad that we lost such a bright light in Nancy. She was always positive, always ready to laugh.

Nancy was a great colleague. She was such a hard worker. She also regularly arranged for us to meet for lunch and always made the effort to stay in touch with friends from work. She became my coworker in about 2002 when she joined the PCDO unit. Sorry I don't remember the exact date. We had so many fun times and i can't believe she's gone. I still have messages and emails from her sitting on my phone and computer.

She enjoyed her biryani. Nancy got a chance to work in India for her job. She loved travelling. She enjoyed places like Paris and Japan. She spoke French fluently and was naturally gifted with writing and so much more.

Nancy enjoyed her pastas with clams. We loved spending time with her. It was time well spent. We talked about everything, and sometimes her voice carried. She lived her life to the fullest.

My Family and I are very saddened to learn of Nancy’s death. We didn’t know Nancy personally, but we are very good friends with Elaine. It is through the many stories of the Chan family life told through Elaine, that we know what a wonderful, caring, empathetic woman Nancy was in all aspects of her life. A bright light has dimmed with her passing. And to Elaine, we wish you peace and serenity at this very difficult time.
Sincerely and with Love,
Christine Wozney, Jessica, Bob 💐
