Ms. Ollie McCann

Ollie was born on January 28, 1922, near Vermilion, Alberta. She was the second youngest of 11 children, 9 of whom lived to adulthood.

Ollie moved to Galt, Ontario, and from 1942 - 1945 served with the Canadian Army. She then moved back to Edmonton, where she met and married Gordon McCann in 1947. Her daughter Catherine was born in 1949, followed by son Timothy in 1950.

With very little money, and just her entrepreneur spirit and cooking skills, they bought a restaurant in the 1952 Leduc oil boom and moved to Calmar, Alberta, where they lived for 5 years. They then moved to Vancouver and in 1960 Ollie established McCann's Caterers Ltd. where she stayed active until the company was sold in 2001.

Apart from her catering business, family, travel, dancing and her new membership in the Canadian Food Service Executive Association were her main pleasures.

Ollie is survived by her daughter Catherine, son Timothy, daughter in law Kathryn; grandchildren Rob, Shannon, Christine, Mike, Jeff, Bryan; step-grandchildren James and Leah; great grandchildren Lukas, Aly, Ella and step-great grandchildren Katie and Sarah.
