Patricia (Pat) Rose Sorochuk -- our beautiful Mother, Baba, and loving wife of 53 years -- passed away March 2, 2026 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was 79.
She is deeply missed by her husband Fred, son Barry, daughter Shelly (Andrew), son Christopher (Diane), 5 grandchildren: Sarah, Evelyn, David, Ryan and Brooke, her extended family and countless friends.
Pat was born on October 8, 1946 in Melville, Saskatchewan. She was the oldest of three siblings – and the only daughter. Pat moved to B.C. with her family when she was four -- without knowing a word of English. She learned quickly while growing up in the heart of Vancouver, attending St. Andrew’s Elementary and later John Oliver High school.
In her teen years, Pat worked part-time at Woodward’s Food Floor, downtown. She was also a file clerk and spent time with the provincial government in adoptions. After raising 3 kids, she returned to work spending 12 years as office manager at St. Patrick’s Secondary. A job she absolutely adored.
Pat met Fred through her dear friend (and Dad’s sister) Iris, at church. They went on to build a wonderful life and family together. And travelled to 40 countries.
A woman of strong faith, Pat was an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic community for decades. She attended mass regularly, volunteered tirelessly in the hall kitchen, planned large events and worked on items year round for the Christmas Fair.
Pat loved to sew, bake, read, garden, travel and be with her grandchildren. She was fiercely loyal to her family. Nothing made her happier than being together at big gatherings with home cooked meals.
Pat will be remembered for her warm smile, positive attitude and wise advice which always seemed to come at the right time. She lit up a room and loved life in every way. A beautiful person inside and out who fought hard to the very end.
Pat is predeceased by her parents Rose and Peter, and brother Lorne.
She will be forever in our hearts.
