OBITUARY

Mrs. Pearl McNaughton

25 December, 1927 – 3 April, 2025
IN THE CARE OF

Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park

Pearl McNaughton (née Hrehirchek) passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Hospice in Burnaby, BC on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the age of 97.

Pearl was born on December 25, 1927, in Chipman, AB to Jacob and Magdelena Hrehirchek, and she grew up on her family farm.

After graduating from nursing school in Lamont, AB in 1950, she worked as a registered nurse in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and finally, British Columbia, where she met her beloved husband, Jack McNaughton. They had almost 40 years together until his death in 2004, and they loved to travel together, go out for lunch, and putter around their garden.

Pearl also enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, tending her orchids and African violets, and taking long walks around her neighbourhood. She had a keen interest in the world and loved in-depth conversations in which she peppered people with deep, probing questions.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Steven (Robin) Kilistoff, Cathy (Richard Coe) Kilistoff, Terry Kowalchuk, Claudia Kowalchuk, Christine (Mark) Whitman, Andy (Alison) Kowalchuk, Connie (David) Hargreaves, Jayne (Warren Crowder) Manktelow, Curtis Manktelow, and Lynda Manktelow, as well as 14 great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her McNaughton nieces and their families: Ellen (Douglas) Smith, Doreen (Robert) Jones, and Sharon McNaughton. Pearl was particularly close to Doug and Ellen Smith and their children, Brenda (Bill) Greene and Trevor (Erin) Smith, and Trevor’s children, Amelia and Ian, who adored their Baba Pearl. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack McNaughton; her parents, Jacob and Magdelena Hrehirchek; and her siblings, Mary Hrehirchek, Mike Hrehirchek, George Hershaks, Nick Hrehirchek, Kost (Rita) Hrehirchuk, Marie Chisholm, Ann (Joe) Kilistoff, William Herchek, and Helen (Gordon) Manktelow.

As per her request, no service will be held, but we ask you to remember her by going out to your favourite restaurant for lunch. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael’s Hospice, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Donation buttons can be found below.
