Reinhard passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2026 with family by his side. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 71 years, Iraida, in 2020. Reinhard will be deeply missed by his sons, Victor (Sylvia) and Harri (Gillian), and his grandson Damon. He is lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews across Canada, Germany, and Russia.
Reinhard was born in Ukraine in 1927, and his early years were shaped by the upheavals of World War II. Life carried him from Ukraine to Germany, then to Russia, where he met his wife, Iraida, and together they raised two sons, Victor and Harri.
In the 1950s, with the help of the Red Cross, Reinhard reconnected with his family in Canada, and in the early 1970s, settled in Vancouver to build a new life surrounded by loved ones.
Reinhard was a man of remarkable skill and boundless curiosity. He found joy in playing his accordion and in gardening, particularly in nurturing his cherished tomato plants, and took pride in working with his hands—repairing, building, and lending his expertise wherever it was needed. He eagerly assisted his sons in renovating their homes, always ready with a helping hand and an encouraging smile.
Beyond his talents and hard work, Reinhard’s true gift was his spirit. His kindness, generosity, and infectious warmth touched everyone who knew him. A wonderful smile always accompanied his good heart, leaving memories that will endure for generations.
A celebration of Reinhard’s life will be held at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Street in Burnaby, on May 22, 2026, at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or your favourite charity.
