We are sad to announce that on June 20, 2025 we had to say goodbye to Remo Di Fonzo (Vancouver, BC) who was 103. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided (by scrolling down to click on the green rectangle "Add a Memory" button) and share with family.
Remo was born as Eligio Remo Di Fonzo, though he parents soon called him “Remo” He was born in Campodimele, Italy, a hill-town in Lazio, in the province of Latina, which is close to Formia. Campodimele is well known for its longevity of its citizens and centenarians. After serving in World War II, Remo ventured to Vancouver alone in 1950 seeking a better life for his childhood love and wife, Maria, and his young son, Antonio. Three years later after saving very diligently, he sent for his family and then he sponsored the Borsa family, his brother Francesco Di Fonzo, and Pietro and Zaccaria Di Fonzo. He worked hard usually at two or three jobs to support his family. He retired from public service with the federal government after 20 years. He loved his family deeply, gardening (especially tomatoes, lettuce, beans and figs) and making red wine.
He was loved and cherished by many people including his late wife, Maria, his children Antonio and Romolo; his daughter-in-laws Sam and Maria, his grandchildren Eligio (Isabel) and Elicia and his many nephews and nieces.
